JEANERETTE, La. -- The Jeanerette Museum is hosting a Finding Family Workshop from 10 a.m. - noon on Sat., Nov. 12, 2016 to help the public learn more about basic genealogy.
This free workshop will be led by Shirley Broussard, who is well known in the genealogy field through her volunteer work at the genealogy section at Parkview Library.
In the workshop, she will explain genealogy books compiled by Father Donald Hebert along with Baton Rouge Diocese, South Louisiana and New Orleans Diocese records. She will give insight into the various online databases to assist in finding family records as well as discuss church records, courthouse records, census records and more.
Broussard is originally from Arkansas and grew up in Mississippi. She moved here in 1960 and began researching her husband's family in 1997. When a special genealogy room was being planned for the library system, she was responsible for having genealogy books transferred and helped in the planning stages of the room. She has been a volunteer helping others ever since. Broussard is currently undertaking other projects including the mapping of a Jeanerette grave site.
Registration is recommended for this free workshop so that adequate supplies may be on hand, however registration is not required to attend.
