This year we are thrilled to be partnering again with the Finding Bright Film Festival (formerly the Arlington International Film Festival) for a special post-screening event. Under its new mission, the rebranded festival seeks to "Make Boston Weirder." At our event we will highlight the film Yo (Love is a Rebellious Bird), which certainly fits the bill.
Yo, co-directed by Anna Fitch and Banker White, documents the process of grieving and celebrating a dear friendship through the use of puppets: "Anna spends a decade obsessively building a detailed 1/3-scale version of her friend's house after losing her. It's just big enough for Anna to squeeze through the door. Inside lives a puppet of her friend Yo. When the pair met, Yo was 73 and Anna just 24. After Yo's death, Anna re-constructs a magical space where Yo's stories unfold, and their relationship continues."
The screening will take place at the Capitol Theater this Saturday, November 7 at 12 pm; following the film, we will host our event across the street at the gallery from 1:45 to 3 pm. We will be joined by Yo's filmmakers, who will bring the Yo puppet with them, as well as Sarah Nolen, a local puppeteer, who will bring additional puppets for a demonstration. You can read more about our event here, and check out a recent write-up about the film and the festival by WBUR here.
