Two of my favorite things in the world are nature and books, and I'm thankful to be surrounded by both.
I adore animals and love it anytime I get a glimpse of wildlife. For my birthday, I got a trail cam, so now I get a lot more glimpses of the critters that visit our home. In the past couple of weeks, I've seen photos and videos of bunnies, squirrels, opossums, birds, raccoons, and-- my favorite-- the gray foxes that hang out on our property. The photo above is a young female I've named Finley. Isn't she gorgeous?
Unfortunately, the world is a dangerous place for wildlife. Cars, traps, poisons, and human ignorance or cruelty often lead to unnecessary suffering. I recently started volunteering at the North Texas Wildlife Center, an organization whose goal is to rescue, rehab, and re-release injured and orphaned animals. The experience has been very rewarding. If you're looking for a non-profit to support this month, consider giving some money to these big-hearted, hard-working rehabbers.
