June is National Microchip Month!

This past April, some construction workers made a surprising discovery: a cat was hiding in the wall of the job site they’d been working on! Kettle the adventurous cat was covered in debris and had clearly been through quite a bit, but remained calm and affectionate on his ride to HSSC.

Thankfully, Kettle had a microchip. But when we scanned it, we hit a snag - five different phone numbers were listed! It was the end of the day, but our determined intake coordinator believed someone had to be missing this sweet cat. She picked up the phone and called every single number.

One call… two… three… four… hope was wavering.

But on the fifth call, the person on the other end was overjoyed to hear that their cat had been found. Kettle had been missing for three whole months!

The very next morning, his family came to reclaim him. There were happy tears, loud purrs, and a joyful reunion that reminded us all of the importance of microchips. ❤️

Keep Your Microchips Up to date!

  • Ensure your pet's microchip information is up to date! You can obtain the microchip number from the location where your pet was chipped, or have a veterinarian or animal shelter scan your pet if you don't have the number.

Going home feels so good!

From Timid Tail Wags to Carhartt Cool

Our Santa Rosa Adoption Counselor, Destiny, has some pawsitively amazing news to share!

“Our sweet boy Chuck has found his forever family and they are absolutely smitten. They just couldn’t get him out of their minds after their first visit, and a few days later, they called back with the words we all love to hear: ‘We want to make it official.’

“From the moment Chuck arrived, it was clear he had a long road ahead. He was timid, unsure, and not quite ready to trust the world again. But through every slow step, every patient walk, every soft-spoken word from volunteers and staff alike — Chuck began to open up. He started to lean into affection. He greeted us with tail wags. He became our Chuck. And now? He’s living his best life, decked out in brand new Carhartt gear, riding shotgun with his new family like the confident, rugged explorer he always had the potential to be.

“While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to a dog who captured so many hearts, this is exactly the kind of happy ending we work so hard for — and it’s a reminder that no matter how long it takes, there’s a perfect home out there for every animal.”

CONGRATULATIONS CHUCK!

Thank you for changing Chuck’s life!

A Fang-tastic New Life!

“Hi! I adopted “Basil” the cat from HSSC and wanted to share updates of how he’s doing!

“We call him ‘Teefs’ now since he has little fangs from his overbite, and although he started off as a shy little guy, he’s like duct tape! He’s super chatty and loves going wherever we go in the house.

“Watching TV? He’s right there with us. Trying to cook something? Meowing at our feet trying to be a part of whatever’s going on.

“He acts like he owns the place now and I never would have recognized the cat he is today vs how he was on day one!

“WE LOVE TEEFS!!!”

Teefs needed!

Your support was literally lifesaving for Tiramisu!

When one of our rescue partners reached out to let us know Tiramisu was on the euthanasia list and asked if we could help, we didn’t hesitate.

The beautiful 8-year-old cat been nothing but sweet since she arrived at their shelter, but, due to a medical condition they were unable to treat, she was scheduled to be euthanized in 48 hours.

Tiramisu had been living with Feline stomatitis, which causes severe gum and mouth inflammation. It’s extremely painful and makes it very hard for the kitty to eat. Her original shelter tried to keep her comfortable with pain meds but they knew this was only a stopgap solution.

You made it possible to save Tiramisu!

Our shelter medical team scheduled Tiramisu for dental surgery right away. They gave her a thorough exam and found 26 diseased teeth that had to be removed!

We are very happy to report that Tiramisu came through her surgery like a pro! Within a just few days she was feeling so much better – scarfing up her food and showing off her loving, outgoing personality! And – even more good news! - she was adopted into a wonderful home this past Saturday!

YOU made this happily-ever-after possible for Tiramisu! Your gifts to our Angels Fund mean we can say “YES!” to desperate calls for help from our hardworking rescue partners and “YES!” to more animals in need.

Thank You!! ❤️
