Dear Ones,

I hope you're well this week.

My partner, Jill, was in town the last few days and so I took a couple days for some R&R with her.

On Monday, we drove out just about 45 minutes east past Fountain Hills to Suguaro Lake where we swam in the refreshing water (in spite of the tiny gnats and flies!) and had a picnic. Then we drove about five minutes further and found our way to the shores of the Salt River. Tucked back from the road and the parking area was this peaceful little spot where we found a little spot to sit in the cold water and let the river flow around us. We sat there for better than a half hour. The hot sun beat down on us, but the cold river balanced it out, so it was practically perfect.

Having been raised in Minnesota, water was always around me, but since I've been in Arizona, I've felt the absence keenly...a sentiment I'm sure I am not the only one to feel. But with 3 small kids for so many years, and busy jobs, I didn't go looking for it.

As I sat in the river, I felt a moment of tearful regret: the water I needed was *right here* less than an hour from me. It'd been here all along! But I didn't go to find it until now? 20 years later? Why had I wasted all this time?

Jill was kind to gently remind me that it's okay that I needed to be busy with other things in that time and it mattered most that I had found it now. Which is true. The river hadn't changed, but I had over these years. And I could regret the lost years, or I could give thanks that I woke up and gave myself what I need now.

It's really all we can do, isn't it? Do our best with what's in front of us and give thanks for when things shift and we go find what it is we need.

I hope you are giving yourself what you need when you need it, dear ones. Without regret or looking back, but giving thanks that it's been here for you all along, ready to tend your soul and restore the pieces you were missing.

Espero que te vaya bien esta semana. 

Mi pareja, Jill, estuvo en la ciudad estos últimos días, así que me tomé un par de días para descansar y relajarme con ella.

El lunes, manejamos unos 45 minutos hacia el este, pasando Fountain Hills, hasta el lago Saguaro, donde nos bañamos en el agua refrescante (¡a pesar de los diminutos mosquitos y moscas!) y hicimos un picnic. Luego manejamos unos cinco minutos más y llegamos a las orillas del río Salt. Un poco alejado de la carretera y del estacionamiento había un rinconcito tranquilo donde encontramos un lugarcito para sentarnos en el agua fría y dejar que el río fluyera a nuestro alrededor. Nos quedamos allí sentadas por más de media hora. El sol ardiente nos daba de lleno, pero el frío del río lo compensaba, así que fue prácticamente perfecto.

Al haber crecido en Minnesota, siempre estuve rodeada de agua, pero desde que estoy en Arizona, he sentido profundamente su ausencia… un sentimiento que estoy segura de que no soy la única en sentir. Pero con tres niños pequeños durante tantos años y trabajos exigentes, no me dediqué a buscarla.

Mientras estaba sentada en el río, sentí un momento de arrepentimiento que me hizo llorar: el agua que necesitaba estaba *justo aquí*, a menos de una hora de mí. ¡Siempre había estado aquí! ¿Pero no fui a buscarla hasta ahora? ¿Veinte años después? ¿Por qué había desperdiciado todo este tiempo?

Jill tuvo la amabilidad de recordarme con delicadeza que está bien que haya tenido que ocuparme de otras cosas en ese tiempo y que lo más importante es que la haya encontrado ahora. Lo cual es cierto. El río no había cambiado, pero yo sí lo había hecho a lo largo de estos años. Y podía lamentar los años perdidos, o podía dar gracias por haber despertado y haberme dado lo que necesito ahora.

En realidad, es lo único que podemos hacer, ¿no es así? Hacer lo mejor que podamos con lo que tenemos frente a nosotros y dar gracias cuando las cosas cambian y vamos en busca de lo que necesitamos.

Espero que se estén dando lo que necesitan cuando lo necesitan, queridos. Sin remordimientos ni mirar hacia atrás, sino dando gracias porque siempre ha estado ahí para ustedes, listo para cuidar su alma y restaurar las piezas que les faltaban.
