Fire Department Open House scheduled for Sunday, October 3
The Papillion Fire Department invites La Vista residents to celebrate Fire Prevention Week with an open house on Sunday, October 3, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., at Station 4, which is located at 8110 Park View Blvd.

Tour the station, climb on the equipment, meet your firefighters and enjoy some snacks!

La Vista Builds Spooky Structures: Minecraft Competition
This month kids ages 8-18 can enter in a competition to create their most spooky build! Builders will have until the ZOOM showcase on Sept. 24th at 1 P.M. to work on their builds. Photos will be posted after the showcase for the public to vote on until Oct. 17th. There will be one winner in the 8-12 bracket and one in the 13-18 bracket. Entry forms with detailed rules are available at the library and online.
 
Virtual Escape Rooms: Winner Raffle Sept. 30th
Complete a virtual escape room for the chance to enter a raffle drawing! Each escape room has a code word at the end. Tell us the code and your name will be entered for a prize raffle. You can enter once for each escape room. All ages are welcome to enter. The escape rooms can be completed alone or in a group. Computer or tablet recommended for play.

Library hosting Makerspace
The Library is hosting a makerspace studio, featuring equipment such as a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, 3D printer, embroidery machine, heat press, CNC router and a laminator. The studio also includes:
  • Lego Mindstorm kit
  • Button maker
  • Audio/music recording kit
  • Camera/video/green screen kit

The equipment in the studio is available for use at no charge. However, makers will need to pay for any consumables used in the making process. A variety of materials are available for purchase according to the Consumables Pricing Schedule posted in the Library.

The Library Innovation Studio Project is available through a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Nebraska Library Commission. Its goal is to empower communities with the tools and guidance to explore, collaborate, create, learn and invent through participatory learning experiences.

The makerspace studio will be open select days and hours while it is in

Computer classes for seniors!
Laptops also available at the Community Center!
It's never too late to learn! The La Vista Senior Center is teaching computer classes, laptops provided or bring your own. One-on-one attention is available.

All computer classes are based on what you would like to learn, so contact Kaily Stanley at 402.331.3455 or via e-mail at [email protected] with your suggestions.

The senior center also has five laptops available to be used by seniors at any time during Community Center hours. The laptops must be used within the Community Center. Black and white printing (up to 10 pages) is also available to our seniors.
Movie showings
Taste some fresh popcorn and have a soda all while you enjoy a classic film or newer movie at the La Vista Senior Center.

Every other Tuesday at 1 p.m. join us to watch a movie in our big screen.

coed youth volleyball league
For Boys and Girls Grades 3-8 as of Fall 2021

Practices will tentatively begin the week of October 4, and are held at coach’s discretion on Monday - Friday evenings with no practices on Wednesdays. Practices will be held at the La Vista Community Center.

Volunteer coaches are needed.

All games are held on Saturday mornings/afternoons and Monday evenings beginning November 6. All games are played at the Bellevue Junior Sports Association Center.

The La Vista Recreation Department is seeking a fitness instructor for youth, adult and senior classes at the Community Center!

Punt, Pass & Kick contest is TONIGHT, September 23!!
La Vista Sports Complex (66th & Harrison), Flag Football Field #3

Girls and boys will compete in the following age divisions (as of 12/31/21): 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 & 15.

The winner of each age division will be determined by the cumulative score of the three skills - punting, passing and kicking. Winners will qualify for the state competition on Sunday, October 3, at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln!

An adult competition (ages 21+) will be held upon completion of the youth contest. Separate divisions for men and women. Adult winners will not advance to the state competition.

NO CLEATS ALLOWED.

Register in-person 5:30-6 p.m. the day of the event.

Cookies & Painting Pumpkins!
Check out this upcoming arts and craft class at the La Vista Community Center for ages 7-12!

Cookies and Painting Pumpkins Class
Saturday, Oct. 9, 1-4 p.m.

The class will be painting a pumpkin on a canvas. Each participant will receive an Eileen’s cookie while having fun painting.

This class has a minimum of 5 participants and a maximum of 15.

$25/person
