Fire Equipment Donation Blesses 10 Fire Departments in Honduras | |
|
Fire equipment — hoses, nozzles, hoods, jackets, pants, face masks, gloves, harnesses, helmets, and more. These are items that fire departments in the United States are blessed with. We couldn't fathom not having access to this basic safety gear and equipment.
Many developing countries around the world don’t have the same privilege. Their fire gear might look like jeans or shorts and a t-shirt, buckets full of water, and whatever simple equipment they do have access to and can afford.
The ability to safely fight fires shouldn’t be a privilege, but a human right. Firefighters, wherever they reside, risk their lives in unimaginable ways. But, to do so without the proper equipment is even more unimaginable.
Did you know fire departments around the U.S. have to get rid of their fire gear that has "expired" due to U.S. regulations?
That's why Midwest Mission collects the gear that is still in good condition, and is safe to use, and sends it to fire departments in developing countries that don’t have the gear they need to safely fight the fires.
Recently, we sent fire gear to Honduras through our partner Food For The Poor. We received a partner report with pictures and information about the fire gear distribution.
| |
The fire gear was sent to 10 different fire stations across the country of Honduras. Their fire stations were short on much-needed equipment.
Heydy Bu, Food For The Poor’s in-country partner representative, shared the importance of this donation: “We are now in a much better position to provide the help needed by the Honduran people when there is an emergency.”
“God bless you greatly for everything you do for those most in need,” Norma Urbina, another representative, expressed. “Our most sincere thanks is given to you through our prayers.”
It is truly a blessing to be a blessing.
We will always need fire gear donations for those we serve! If you or someone you know is willing to talk to your local fire department about future gear donations, we have a flier available for you. You can download it here.
Our mission is to bring the hearts and hands of God’s people together to transform resources into humanitarian aid. Your willingness to help spread the word allows us to fulfill our mission in new and exciting ways. Thank you!

Supplies in, Supplies Out
40th International Shipment — Honduras
| |
|
Supplies do not sit at Midwest Mission very long before they are sent to a place in need.
This past weekend, on October 21, Chantel Corrie and Jeff Whitehouse led a Rice Meal Pack at Grace UMC in St. Louis, MO. Just six days later, these same Rice Meals were shipped out of the warehouse.
This morning, Friday, October 27th, we sent our 40th international shipment of the year. This shipment is through our partner Food For The Poor, and will reach its final destination in Honduras.
Your donations, whether monetary or physical, are so valuable to Midwest Mission.
Within a short period of time, your supplies are sent out, and new supplies are needed. This is why Off-Site Events and collections are important to Midwest Mission. Without these events and donations, we would not have the supplies needed to continue filling requests. To learn how your church could participate in an Off-Site Event, go to midwestmission.org/off-site
The container was filled to the BRIM — they even had to pull out the measuring tapes to make it all fit.
This shipment included:
- 16 Bikes
- 20 Mattresses
- 29 Electric sewing machines
- 6,000 Rice Meal Bags
- 185 Little Boy Outfits

- 840 Personal Dignity Kits
- 29 Walkers
- 9 Wheelchairs
- 62 Plarn Sleeping Mats

Value: $120,512.40
Thank you to everyone who donated resources and to those who volunteered their time to make this shipment possible. The people on the receiving end will be truly blessed by the supplies they will receive.

In a world of chaos and strife, it can be difficult to stay strong , but thankfully, Christ is our strength. This week, pray this verse with us, that we will all let it soak into our daily lives: the grace given to us by God is sufficient for us.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
