This Saturday, we hope you'll join us for Fire Service Day at Fire Station 51 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a special behind-the-scenes look at the San Gabriel Fire Department.The department will host fun activities, free food and more!

In addition, we hope you're gearing up for the region's largest open streets event on May 19 at 626 Golden Streets! We encourage you to bike, run, or walk along the event route to enjoy the day's festivities.

Now, here's what's making news for May 8, 2019:
City Council approves additional funds for the 2018 Accelerated I-Bank Street Paving Project
In a 4-0 vote with Councilmember Harrington absent from the vote, the City Council voted to approve an increase in funds for the 2018 Accelerated I-Bank Street Paving Project. As a result of the undiscovered macadam road base, construction crews had to remove and dispose the macadam base at an additional cost of $61,000.

Learn about LA County's new voting centers on May 29
Learn about Los Angeles County's vote centers and get insight into the new voting experience on May 29 at 324 South Mission Drive from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. You'll have the chance to learn about new innovative voting equipment designed to meet the needs of LA County voters.
Fire Service Day this Saturday
Friendly reminder: please join us this Saturday, May 11, for the San Gabriel Fire Department's annual Fire Service Day! Visit Fire Station 51 at 1303 South Del Mar Avenue from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to get a behind-the-scenes look at your local fire department, with demonstrations, station tours, hot dogs and more!
Free Asian Pacific American Festival arrives May 21
On May 21, 22, 25 and 26, the Mission Playhouse will be hosting the Asian Pacific American Festival, otherwise known as APAFEST. The festival celebrates Asian Pacific American culture through free music, theatre, film and symposium events.

SGVHS to hold fundraiser May 14
The San Gabriel Humane Society will be holding a fundraiser on Tuesday, May 14 at the Temple City Chipotle located at 5809 Rosemead Boulevard. Simply bring this flyer or show it on your mobile device, and they'll make sure 33% of proceeds will be donated to the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society.
Celebrate National Travel & Tourism Week
This week is National Travel & Tourism Week and we’d like to highlight why “Travel Matters” to San Gabriel! The travel industry has made large contributions to San Gabriel’s economy and jobs. Each year, the hotels within San Gabriel generate millions of dollars in transient occupancy tax which helps support our parks, roads, police and fire services, and much, much more.
