Lawmakers asked to settle late property tax dispute

A local disagreement over who gets to keep the fees and interest charged on delinquent property taxes has made its way to the state capitol. Lawmakers heard from several local officials before killing the bill and telling stakeholders to come back with a compromise.

Firing squad execution bill sent to House

Lethal injection is currently the only legal form of execution in Idaho. Multiple states have legalized the use of the firing squad in recent years, in part because the chemicals required for lethal injection have become harder to obtain.

The Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states all criminal defendants have the right to an attorney if they cannot afford one. After years of litigation, the state of Idaho is moving to take the burden for public defense off of counties.
