April 17, 2023
Dear SPS employee,
Effective July 1, 2023, time worked by non-exempt/hourly staff will be paid on a non-annualized basis (hours worked at the hourly rate). For 12-month, non-exempt staff, the final annualized paycheck will be issued on June 30, 2023. The first paycheck issued for 2023-2024 will include pay for hours worked from July 3 through July 16 (9 work days + 1 holiday) and will be issued on July 31.
As a part of the transition from annualized to non-annualized pay, a paycheck will not be issued on Friday, July 14, 2023, because there are no hours worked yet to be paid out. In future years, a July 15 paycheck will be issued for hours worked at the end of June.
Because 12-month staff will only receive one paycheck in July this year, SPS will offer the following two options to help ease this transition and provide pay on Friday, July 14:
-
Payout of Accrued Leave: Employees may choose to have up to 10 days of leave (PTO, sick, or vacation) paid out on July 14.
-
Pay Advance for Hours Not Yet Worked: 10 days of pay would be paid on July 14. The pay advance would then be evenly deducted from your paycheck over the next 11 pays (July 31 to Dec. 31) or upon separation from the district if separation occurs before Dec. 31.
Staff who choose to forgo the options above will not receive a paycheck on July 14, 2023, and will instead receive pay for hours worked from July 3 – July 16 on July 31, 2023.
