Summer has arrived! While many are headed out for vacation, travels, and cooler temps – those staying close can delight in knowing our Horseshoe Bay is its own ‘destination’ we are blessed to call home. Check the HSBay POA website for lists of summer events and activity groups.
Special thanks to the Business Alliance for providing a May full of Boogie at the Bay (working to make it happen even in triple-digit heat!). Please thank them by supporting their businesses. And thanks to all of YOU who attended, and enjoyed the music and fellowship….its POA at its best.
Board News:
*The 4th of July Committee (Bryce Harris, chair) is in full prep mode with exciting plans for our hometown celebration. Volunteers are still needed; please read the article included below for more information about volunteering. Mark your calendars for a full morning of parades, play, eats/drinks, and a program at Quail Point. Get your parade vehicles decorated (not political or divisive…just patriotic, proud, and HSBay living it up!) We will salute our First Responders as Grand Marshalls – and salute our veterans. This year, we are limiting the number of Dog Parade participants to twenty and asking for dogs to be pre-registered. Click here to register your dog in the dog parade.
You will be receiving a ‘ballot’ in the mail. It is the POA member's opportunity to read the agreement details between the Declarant and the POA and to indicate your vote for the approval of the amendment to the POA Declarations. Amendment #5 streamlines the responsibilities of all parties, ensuring clarity on how our POA fees are spent. All questions regarding care of entrances along Hwy 2147 or concerns about non-compliance with architectural guidelines will go through Christine Reinquist, ACC, creinhardt@hsbresort.com.
Remember safety, safety – on the lake, around cookouts (fire containment), ‘dodging’ summer visitors new to our community winding and dark skies roads, hikers/bikers…oh my! Just be alert and remember that our population doubles in the summer as we welcome family/visitors.
* Honor the limited water schedule (once a week) to preserve our water supply this summer. It may be tough to watch our lawns/plants struggle, but explore water conservation practices of native plantings, less greenspace, and irrigation efficiency. Be a good neighbor… It matters!

Community Education Encore
At our most recent Community Education event, Horseshoe Bay Fire Department’s own Thad Martin delivered an outstanding First Aid Training session that left attendees both informed and empowered. As an experienced EMT and fire truck driver, Thad shared practical, life-saving knowledge in a way that was approachable, hands-on, and incredibly useful. He covered how to respond in the critical moments of a cardiac event or choking emergency, from adults to infants, using training models for live demonstrations. One powerful message he repeated throughout the session was, “The worst thing to do is nothing,” reminding us all that taking action, even small steps, can make a life-saving difference.
If you missed this powerful session, we've got you covered. Thad will be returning for an encore presentation on Wednesday, June 4, at 10:00 AM in the Lake Room at Quail Point Lodge. This is a perfect opportunity to learn essential skills that could one day save a life, all in a friendly and encouraging environment. We are so grateful to Thad for sharing his time and expertise with our community, and we hope to see even more residents take advantage of this important learning opportunity in June. RSVP by replying to this email, or feel free to come with no RSVP.

Mary Daniel - Volunteer Extraordinaire
by Whit Holcomb
If you've admired the festive decorations at Quail Point Lodge or enjoyed a performance by the Wildflowers dance troupe, chances are you've witnessed the creative energy of Mary Daniel in action. This month, we're proud to shine the spotlight on Mary Daniel, who is a dedicated volunteer, talented dancer, and cornerstone of our Horseshoe Bay community.
Originally from a small rural county in southern Illinois, Mary's early days were spent in a two-room schoolhouse without indoor plumbing. A pivotal moment came when her family enrolled in ballroom dance lessons at Arthur Murray's Dance Studio, sparking her lifelong love of movement and a desire to become a teacher. After earning her education degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State), Mary taught at Crockett High School in Austin for 30 years—serving not only as a classroom teacher but also as a cheer and drill team sponsor and, later, a counselor after earning her master's in psychology.
Mary's passion for service blossomed early. When she began high school in a new town, she joined the student council to make connections, and it set a lasting example. "The more I did, the better I felt," she said. "Volunteering helps me establish myself in a community. There's no better way to meet people than to raise that hand and say, 'I'll do that.'"
Here in Horseshoe Bay, Mary leads by example. She's deeply involved in community service and celebrates how many others also give their time to local nonprofits. "Even though we play hard with golf, tennis, and bridge, so many still give time to places like CASA, the Crisis Center, and the Phoenix Center. That's what makes this community so special."
Of course, Mary is also well-known for her role in The Wildflowers, HSB's local dance troupe that has been active for over twenty years. From spreading joy at assisted living centers to performing at Holidaze and the Fourth of July, she treasures the connections created through dance. "We strive to make it look effortless, but it takes commitment," she shared. "The friendships we form through that shared effort are lasting. We even have a song that says, 'Friends we are and friends we will always be.'" This year marks twenty-one years of working with the Helping Hands Craft Group and sponsoring the Bayside Bazaar event.
This year, Mary is once again leading decorations for the Independence Day celebration and will perform with the Wildflowers during the Patriotic Program. We are so thankful that Mary is a part of our community, donating her time, talent, and energy selflessly. Thank you, Mary Daniel!

The May Bingo Night at Quail Point Lodge was full of fun, laughter, and a little extra luck, especially for some couples who found themselves celebrating wins together. With Tom Engler stepping up as our guest caller, the games rolled along smoothly, and the room buzzed with excitement. We send our heartfelt prayers and well wishes to our regular caller, Reagan Lambert, and hope he returns to full strength soon. As always, coffee and water were served, many brought their own favorite beverages, and sweet treats took center stage at halftime. The evening featured ten rounds of classic Bingo fun, with winners leaving a little richer and everyone leaving with a smile.
Bingo Night is the perfect excuse for a relaxing date night or a fun outing with friends. Best of all, it is open to the entire Horseshoe Bay community. Even better, the proceeds from each Bingo night are donated to support a local nonprofit, often benefiting animal rescue efforts in the area. Whether you're a seasoned player or new to the game, Bingo is a great way to connect with neighbors and give back. Please mark your calendars and RSVP now for our next Bingo night, scheduled for Thursday, June 12, at 6:00 PM. To reserve your spot, contact Louraine Robertson at 830-598-6660.
