Lots of progress has been made on the 1st Avenue roadway and trail project.

Paving has been completed on the east half of 1st Avenue between 28th Street and 30th Street, as well as on 29th Street Drive SE. The contractor will be working on sidewalks, grading, and surface restoration in this area. 29th Street Drive SE (east of 1st Avenue) remains closed until 1st Avenue traffic can shift sides. 29th Street NE (west of 1st Avenue) remains open.

Underground utility work has been completed on the east side of 1st Avenue between 32nd Street and 33rd Street. Paving, sidewalks, and surface restoration will be under construction over the next few weeks.

The contactor has also completed the paving on the west side of 1st Avenue at 27th Street as part of intersection reconstruction and realignment. The contractor will be working on driveway reconstruction, sidewalks, and surface restoration in this area over the next few weeks. 27th Street NE (west of 1st Avenue) remains closed until this work is complete. 27th Street Drive SE (east of 1st Avenue) is open to traffic.

The CeMar pedestrian underpass is also moving along. Construction of the box culvert has been completed, and construction of the retaining walls at the pedestrian undercrossing is progressing. Crews will work to complete the retaining walls, backfill, grading, and paving over the top of the pedestrian underpass prior to shifting traffic to the east half of 1st Avenue, to allow work to continue elsewhere on the project. We estimate traffic will shift from the west side of 1st Avenue to the east side in another 4 to 6 weeks.

Traffic remains open one way each direction on 1st Avenue.
