We wanted to provide you with an update on the work taking place on 1st Avenue. Crews are primarily working on the west side of 1st Avenue, with lane reductions in effect.
Crews are currently working on driveway and sidewalk installation of the west side of 1st Avenue, between 31st Street and 35th Street. This is anticipated to only take a few more weeks, and then all work on the west side in this area will be substantially completed.
Crews are also working on the installation of water main on the west side of 1st Avenue, between 29th Street and 31st Street. This is anticipated to take a few more weeks; however, 29th Street will remain closed west of 1st Avenue for much of the summer. Watch for lane shifts in this area as crews transition to working on east-side water main. 1st Avenue will remain open one lane each direction.
The project also includes a pedestrian underpass and trail improvements. The underpass will be installed underneath 1st Avenue, between 30th Street – 31st Street (across from Raining Rose) and will follow the already existing old railroad line.
Once water main work is completed later this summer, the contractor will construct temporary travel lanes on the west side of 1st Avenue, allowing traffic to shift to the west so crews can begin east-side utility work associated with the trail and underpass. This is still several phases away. You can
