Psalm 23

My father was my shield during my childhood. I wasn’t a brave kid. I was mostly cautious and careful. In many ways I was more afraid of what could happen than being interested in what was happening. I didn’t go on the adventures like my older brother. I wanted to feel safe and secure. My father realized this and helped me by being a rock and protector for me. It’s also one of the reasons Psalm 23 is special.

Psalm 23 is a message of protection. It’s a Psalm of praise for the good things God does for his people. In many ways, a Psalm like this is a reminder of the things he has done, the things he is doing, and the fulfillment of things prophesied and promised. In it, the people are the sheep. We desires the presence of the shepherd. It strengthens us, he protects us, and prepares for us. We are well taken care of by the Good Shepherd. That’s something worthy of our praise!

How are you feeling the presence of the Good Shepherd? What are moments in your life that remind you of his goodness?

Blessings,
