First COVID-19 case confirmed in San Gabriel
San Gabriel, CA - The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has confirmed its first case of COVID-19 in San Gabriel. Due to healthcare privacy laws, additional information about the individual will not be released. As additional testing is conducted across Los Angeles County, the number of COVID-19 cases is expected to increase in the region.

“Today, the first confirmed case of COVID-19 from within the City of San Gabriel was reported," said Mayor Jason Pu. "This is not surprising as the number of confirmed cases throughout LA County continues to rise. It does, however, underscore the need for all of us to stay home as much as possible for the health and safety of the entire community.”

The City encourages everyone in San Gabriel to continue to adhere to the County's Safer at Home order, which requires everyone in our community to stay at home unless they are engaging in an essential activity. Staying at home and avoiding non-essential activities is imperative at preventing the additional spread of COVID-19. Residents should continue to practice essential hygiene and social distancing recommendations from the County.

"Sadly, one of LA County’s COVID-19 reported deaths today was a young person under the age of 18," Mayor Pu said. "This disease can infect anybody and have severe consequences for anybody. We all need to comply with the Stay at Home and Safer at Home orders for ourselves, for our families and for the community as a whole"

Residents who are feeling sick are encouraged to stay at home. Individuals who require medical care are encouraged to call before seeking care in person.

To stay informed about the COVID-19 pandemic, the City encourages residents to follow the direction of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health in addition to the California Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention . Residents are also encouraged to sign up for the City's emergency notification system via phone, SMS or email.
