Go ahead...you know you want to volunteer!
Volunteers needed

We are looking for a few great volunteers!
If you have 4 hours a week to donate to First Church, we would love to have you in the church office with us! Currently, Wednesday and Thursday mornings are available, 9 am - 1 pm.  This is a good "Mom with kids in school or preschool" volunteer position. It is also great for men, retirees, and others. Volunteering in the office is a good way to get to know the staff, pastors and other members. You will greet visitors, answer the phone and help our with general office tasks. And you will have fun! Contact Wanell Soslow, 512.255.3336 or wanell@fumc-rr.org to schedule your on-the-job training session.
Words from Will...
The Month of New Beginnings
September 2018 is an exciting month at First Church, with the launch of many new beginnings. First, with the arrival of Rev. Dr. Pat McCain, our pastoral team is complete. This Sunday, Pat will serve as liturgist alongside David and me and join in the celebration of Holy Communion in all three services.

On September 9, we will have a Celebration of God's Call, a creative and moving worship service that will conclude with the installation of our pastors and a commitment of all of us as a congregation to this new chapter of ministry together. Pat will be preaching in all three worship services.

On September 16, the official roll out of Vision 2025 begins with the first of four weeks of vision presentations and sermons. That evening at 5:30 pm, beginning with a light meal, the new Pastors' Bible Study, "A Fresh Approach to Revelation" will begin in the narthex. This is a large group Bible Study with breakout groups. Some of the preparations will be available online and via podcast. Sign up on the website for that great study so that food and materials can be properly prepared.

On September 23, LEADFirst is hosting our Vision 2025 presentation by the Vision Core Team from 12:15 - 2:30 pm. Following the lunch and main presentation, there will be opportunity for questions and the chance to sign up to participate on implementation teams. Please sign up for this luncheon so that enough food is provided. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend so that you will be in the know.

Vision 2025 is all about re-positioning ourselves as a congregation so that we continue to follow Christ with great passion and daring so that we reach new people with the life-changing love of Christ. We have done it before and the result was a move from Brown Street to our present location. What bold steps will God stir within us this time around? What will God stir within you? The theme scripture passage is  Acts 10, in which the early church learned it would have to take surprising new approaches in order to reach new people. The pastors have been reading it daily. The staff is doing a three-week study of it. During this Vision 2025 roll out, I invite you to be reading and studying it as well.

See you Sunday as the new beginnings begin!

Sincerely in Christ,
Will Cotton Signature

After a summer break, LifeGroups are gearing up for fall!
LifeGroups are small groups that join together for spiritual growth, study and mission. They have 8-16 members. The Be Awesome LifeGroup that meets at 8:30 am has resumed meeting after a summer hiatus. The 11 am groups will resume meetings soon.

Currently we have four groups which meet on Sundays at 8:30 or 11 am and are designed primarily for people who attend the 9:40 am CrossRoads worship service. As needed, classes for children and youth will become available. While these groups will take place on Sunday morning, the vision is that LifeGroups will eventually happen during the week all over Round Rock and the surrounding area. Be praying for this exciting development in our ministry!

The first four group offerings include:
  • Be Awesome. For those who are wanting to develop their personal walk through devotional prayer and study, this is for you. Facilitators: Dr. Paul Berg & Amy Friggle, 8:45 am. Meets in Payne Cottage, room 2.
  • Parents of young children and building a Christian family. Parents are still the primary spiritual developers of children, so this study will provide a supportive community for learning how to do that. Facilitators: Scott & Pamela Mallory, 11 am. Meets in Adkins Education Bldg. 5, room 148.
  • LAKERS (Life After Kids...) For parents of youth in late high school to young adults just out of college, this small group offers support and study. Topics include: Getting Reacquainted after the Kids are Gone, Building New Relationships with Your Emerging Young Adult, and a New Look at Finances. Facilitators: Steve & Peggy Bixler, 11 am.  Meets in Adkins Education Bldg. 5, room 124.
  • Putting Your Faith into Action. This small group will mix study and mission, opening with Bob Goff's Love Does. Open to all ages and stages. Facilitators: Michael & Regina Bohmfalk, 11 am.  Meets in Adkins Education Bldg. 5, room 222.
If you're interested in one of these groups, please contact the group leaders.

Thank you. All of our college students were adopted on Sunday!
Worship Arts
Children's Choir

It's time to sign up for Alleluia Chorus Children's Choir!
In the Alleluia Chorus our elementary students learn the skills of singing and music reading while they sing anthems of their own as well as join with the Choral Union in joint choral presentations. These early experiences create wonderful memories of joyful musical events linked with the worship of God-thus building the foundation for a walk with Christ.

Rehearsals: Sunday morning during the 11 am service. Children will join their parents in worship until just before the sermon (around 11:40 am) and then go to Bldg. 5-234 for rehearsal until 12:15 pm.

Contact director Jennifer Harvill for more information: jennifer.harvill@fumc-rr.org.
Youth Choir

Sign up today! Youth Choir rehearsals begin September 9.
Youth Choir is open to all youth from 6th-12th grades, giving our students the opportunity to lead worship and minister to the body of Christ through the gift of music. The ensemble will sing a variety of musical styles during morning worship services every 4-6 weeks and at special events. Our first rehearsal will be on Sunday, September 9.

Rehearsals will be held in the South Suite from 4:30 - 5:30 pm on Sunday evenings, prior to Youth Group.
The mornings when we sing in worship, we will use the time between the Sanctuary services to rehearse, replacing that evenings' rehearsal.  All dates are in line with the Youth Ministry schedule.

If you'd like to be a part of this group or have questions, please contact Michael Rosensteel, Director of Music, michael@fumc-rr.org or 512.255.3336 ext. 140.
New Community Bible Study begins September 11
Community Bible Study offers a 12-week study in the Psalms
The Psalms are often called "the heart of the Old Testament", not only because they are in the middle of the Bible but also, because they work on our own hearts. John Calvin said of the Psalms, "I have been wont to call this book an anatomy of all parts of the soul, for there is not an emotion of which any one can be conscious that is not here represented as in a mirror."

Come join our study on Tuesday nights at 7 pm beginning September 11  in Bldg. 5-223/224 at the First Methodist Church in Round Rock. Men and women are welcome. For more information contact Paul Lake 512.826.6353 or plake@austin.rr.com.
