The Joy of Gratitude
This Sunday is the one before Thanksgiving, which is always a special one for me. Even though it is more of a national than religious holiday, it sums up the primary motivation for why we serve one another and our world in the name of Christ.

Dr. Pat McCain shared with us last week that anyone with an income of more than $34,000 is among the wealthiest 1% in the world. At the same time, we are among the least happy of nations in the world. While that validates the old saying “money can’t buy happiness,” it also says that somehow we have missed the motivation of gratitude.

The advertising industry tells us continually what we deserve, which is to have the products they have for sale. But the secret to life is not getting what we deserve, but rather responding to everything good that comes our way as a gift of grace. Then when we give and we serve, it is joining God in passing grace along.

This Sunday, we will have a second opportunity to make our financial commitments for the coming year. I ask that all of our individuals and families take time to prayerfully consider what God is leading you to give. I wake up each morning feeling like I am one of the most blessed people on the planet. I am surrounded by grace on every side, even on the most challenging of days. It is out of that gratitude that Tina and I are making our commitment, and it is our joy to do it. I hope you will join us in making that commitment.

See you Sunday for a wonderful Thanksgiving Sunday service.

Sincerely in Christ,
Will Cotton Signature
