Save Our Birds: The Connecticut Audubon Society and the state DEEP recommend that everyone immediately remove bird feeders from their yards to help stop the spread of a strange disease that has killed thousands of birds in other states. It’s not known whether the as yet unidentified disease is in Connecticut, but authorities are taking no chances. They say homeowners should take down feeders, including hummingbird feeders, and birdbaths, and clean them all with a mild bleach solution. That likely will stop the spread of infection; it’s not known how long the removal will last. If you find dead birds in your yard, call the DEEP at 860-424-3011. We all want to help God’s feathered creatures by feeding them, but now doing just the opposite will bring a bigger benefit. There’s plenty of food in nature, and birds won’t congregate and infect one another.
