First Communion
Parents and grandparents,

Yes! We are definitely having First Communion June 14th. No changes have been made to the date or time of any of our First Communion events.

Please use the link below to sign your child up for either 9:30 or 11:30 Mass.

Because of the pandemic, your child will receive Communion in a really cool way, receiving both the host and the Precious Blood at the same time. Please, please, please practice this with your child at home before the rehearsal. I have an explanation in a box below that is titled "Receiving Communion."

DATES
  • June 6th Banner Hanging: 3:00pm. Please come help if you are able! With just six volunteers, we should be able to hang all banners in one hour.

  • June 10th First Communion Rehearsal: 6:00pm in the Church.
  • One parent must attend with each child.
  • We will meet in the church and walk through every part of the Mass, with the kids practicing how they will process in, practice receiving Communion then going back to their pews... Everything.

  • June 14th First Communion Mass: You have the choice of either 9:30 Mass or 11:30 Mass.
  • Whichever Mass you sign up for, please arrive at the church and sign in one hour before Mass begins.
  • If you sign up for the 11:30 Mass, your child will be part of the Corpus Christi Procession. If you do not want your child to be part of the procession, sign them up for the 9:30 Mass.

  • July 4th and 5th Banner and Photo Pickup: After every Mass.
  • If you cannot make it on July 4th weekend, you can pick up your child's banner during office hours anytime.
PHOTOS
  • FREE PHOTO: A photographer will take a photo of each child as he/she is receiving Communion. Each family will receive a photo of their child receiving Communion, free of charge.

  • The photographer will also take photos during Mass.

  • The photographer will be available to take formal photos of your child before Mass if you wish.

  • If you wish to purchase photos, you can do so after the First Communion Day at trademarc.org. There will be a password to see and purchase these photos, so they are not visible to the whole world.

  • All photos will be available for pick-up on July 4th weekend.

CERTIFICATES
We need baptismal certificates to be able to properly record your child's First Communion in St. Patrick's sacramental records books and to properly notify of your child's First Communion.

I am going to be getting all that paperwork together this coming week. So if you have not already turned in your child's baptismal certificate, please e-mail me a copy!
RECEPTION
We are currently not allowed to have large gatherings. Unless that changes in the next few weeks, we will not have a reception after either First Communion Mass.
BANNERS
  • The banners are 2 ft by 3 ft, no glitter.

  • Turn in banners any time before June 6th.

  • Banner Hanging: June 6th at 3:00pm

  • Banner Pick-Up: July 4th and 5th after every Mass
  • I will be in Fitzpatrick Hall after every Mass to give back banners.
  • If you cannot make it on July 4th weekend, you can pick up your child's banner during office hours anytime.
  • We would never throw away banners, so if you don't pick them up right away, don't stress about it. They will be safe and sound in my office.
RECEIVING COMMUNION
We are all concerned about germs spreading from multiple people using the chalice. But it is the preferred practice for First Communicants to receive under both species (both eating the host and drinking from the chalice). So your child will receive by intinction. This means that each child will kneel on the kneeler, the priest will partially dip the host into the chalice of Precious Blood, then place the host on your child's tongue.

When you are practicing this at home, please keep these tips in mind:

  • Your child should be kneeling.

  • Your child should look up at face of the priest (so that their face is in a good position for the priest to place the Eucharist on his/her tongue).

  • The priest then says, "Body of Christ".

  • Your child should say "Amen" then open his/her mouth and stick out his/her tongue.

  • Your child can then stand and do the Sign of the Cross.

Each child will also practice this during our First Communion Rehearsal on June 10th.
