JEANERETTE, La. -- The Jeanerette Museum will present the documentary film viewing of, "First Cousins: Cajun and Creole Music in South Louisiana," at 6 p.m. on March 22, 2017.
This film explores the rich musical heritage of the region's French-speaking people who have shared tunes, borrowed instruments, and danced in each others arms for generations. In private moments and in packed dance halls, some of the region's most beloved musicians reveal the passion they share for making music and carrying on family traditions. With roots reaching all the way back to Africa, Europe, and French Canada over the past three centuries, the solid trunk of Louisiana's Creole and Cajun music has flourished into a family tree with intertwined branches.
Moriah Istre, Ph.D., will introduce the film and lead a brief discussion on its making. Istre is a multilingual folklorist, cultural festival programmer and independent filmmaker. Creative and passionate, Istre embraces the arts and enjoys opportunities to celebrate her Cajun and Creole heritage.
This free program, to be held at the museum located at 500 E. Main St. in Jeanerette, is suitable for an adult audience. Seating may be limited and taken on a first come, first serve basis.
