Spring 2017
Unmistakeable signs of spring lead up to this important first day of spring. January and February offered mild temperatures and blue skies. Let's face it, the last three months have been unusual. What about last week with wind and crazy temperatures and snow? Nature controls its own so we have enjoyed crocus, hyacinth, forsythia, and many other spring bloomers.
The recent freezing morning temperatures should not cause  permanent damage to existing landscapes. Any freeze  damaged foliage will be replaced by new growth with the onset of milder temps and longer day lengths.
NCSU Extension reports that we are 21 days ahead of normal temperature schedules.   Read More
Spring Check List
March to May Garden Tips
Winter weekly visits keep us prepared to jump into full swing in the spring.  Our crews have been busy this winter completing mulching applications, pruning monkey grass,  and doing final leaf collections. We have been targeting early germinating weeds in beds and  in the turf. We are now performing deep root injection of fertilizer/insecticide for  boxwoods and other shrubbery. Email dkelly@barringerlandscape.com for a price quote for this service.

Take a look at this  Spring Check List. We will focus now on the spring 2017 weather outlook and hope for perfect spring weather!

Maintaini ng consistent schedules with an eye on specific needs are key to landscape health. Click on the months below for specifics on turf care and weed control applications that are typically performed during the first half of the season.
  • January - Hi Calcium Lime
  • February - Pre-Emergent Weed Control/Fertilizer
  • March - Organic Soil Supplement with Iron
  • April - Pre-Emergent Weed Control/Fertilizer
  • May - Broad Leaf Weed Control, Fungicide
  • June - Fertilizer, Broad Leaf Weed Control/Fertilizer
Spring Irrigation
Spring Irrigation Startups
With below freezing temperatures behind us, i rrigation startups are scheduled to begin. The spring startup service helps keep irrigation systems functioning properly. We inspect for any issues winter may have left behind. Regular service includes:
  • Backflow turn on, leak monitoring.
  • Checking for clogged or damaged heads.
  • Checking timer and programming for current weather conditions.

You will be contacted in advance if we need access to your controller. If you know of any specific system issues please email support@barringerlandscape.

Spring Flower Installation
Early May is when we install annual flowers with initial orders placed in January. Spring offers a wider selection of plant material than fall and is a great time to experiment. Contact Jamie Kent at support@barringerlandscape.com if you are interested in adding this flower service. April 1 deadline!

Another service we are considering:
Why not add a cutting garden?
Cutting gardens provide a variety of colorful blooms through the season. S tart simply and see how it goes. We help sele c t the plants to make sure that the varieties would thrive in your designated area, plot the area, prep the bed, and plant the flowers. Once the cutting garden is set up, the rest would be your labor of love: watering, cutting often, and deadheading. If this sounds appealing, please call or email to let us know.
