Senior Sunrise

Monday, August 21, 6:45am

Welcome to your Senior Year, class of 2024! We are excited to connect with you bright and early next Monday morning with a very special Animas tradition: Senior Sunrise.

We know that it's an adjustment to wake up early at the start of the school year, but please meet at the base of the ABC trailhead (also known as the Centennial Trail or Nature Trail), located at the corner of East 10th Street and 6th Avenue at 6:45am on Monday morning. Please consider carpooling and be aware of parking legally in the neighborhood near the trailhead.

Once your class has gathered, you'll hike up to the lawn next to the Fort Lewis College chapel on the rim of the mesa, where your teachers will greet you with open arms and hopes for you for the year ahead. Oh--and coffee and donuts!

Back on campus, the school day begins at 8:30, and all students--including seniors--will gather for a NEST Meeting in the Commons before heading off to classes at 9:15. We'll wrap up Senior Sunrise in time for you to walk back down the trail (or Sky Steps) to get your car and drive to AHS--or to walk from the FLC chapel to our campus.

Please dress for the weather and trail. It might be a little chilly that early--it will certainly be beautiful!

Also, please plan to be on campus the first Wednesday afternoon until the end of the day at 3:20. We're counting on you to model cultural leadership and while generally, as seniors, you will not need to attend XBlock classes Wednesday afternoons, we'd like you to be with us this first week for Advisory, Osprey Block meetings and NEST Meeting.

We can't wait to see you and to welcome you to your senior year!
