2020 December FDKM Newsletter
|
Only a week left in 2020. We're all eagerly awaiting to say "Adios!" to a crazy and unprecedented year. So let's wrap up 2020 like a bad white elephant gift at an office party!
|

Hello FDKM'ers
Well, that was a rollercoaster of a year! None of us could've have anticipated what 2020 turned out to be. Unless you're a true soothsayer or time traveler, if so please DM us, we have some questions. We hope everyone has been able to stay safe and relatively healthy through this pandemic. We have truly missed seeing many of you over the past 10 months. Hopefully, in 2021 we'll be able to resume our regular Krav Maga schedule with the return of events, seminars, specialized classes, and fun social events.
With that said we're slightly adjusting our schedule, training levels, and systems in the new year. We're always striving to find the best systems, programs, and progression for all of our students and members. I won't go over the new changes in too much detail in this newsletter, but definitely in the one coming out for January. With January also brings back our first round of our popular Introduction to Krav Maga Course to kick off the year! 8 classes, twice a week, for 4 weeks! Great way to jumpstart your Krav Journey or knock off the rust from 2020 pandemic quarantine. Don't forget that we're offering a special on registrations for the course. Add on an additional registration for only $50! The more the merrier when it comes to Krav Maga training!
Of course, many of you may have noticed that there wasn't a monthly newsletter for November or the beginning of December. My apologies for that. Time seemed to go at warp speed here towards the end of the year. We've been jumping through hoops all year long, and occasionally we'll trip over a few along the way..... But we did want to send a quick brief one before we go on our annual holiday winter break.
So read on about some quick announcements we have before break. And make sure to keep an eye out for January 2021's newsletter. It'll be packed with a lot of important information about the schedule, logging into accounts, rsvp'ing for classes, covid-19 updates, and other important topics. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you online or in person for some Krav Maga training in the new year.

New Schedule starting January 2nd 2021!
The past year has been quite the rollercoaster. We've been doing our best to meet the training needs of our students at the same time as meeting the guidelines for Covid-19. As long as we are able to train in person, even at a reduced capacity moving into the new year, we'll continue to expand our class offerings as we see fit. We'll also be introducing some structural changes to progression, class "levels", and training expectations for our members in 2021. Many things will continue to stay relatively the same, but we are changing other things that we hope will make the training and progression experience better.
Beginning in January the following schedule changes will be made:
- Saturday's will no longer have a 15 minute break between classes
- Saturday class times have changed (due to the removal of the 15 minutes between classes. . . )
- Class levels for adults have changed ( more information about this in our January newsletter)
- Saturday classes will continue to stream live but will not be recorded
- Additional in-person classes have been added for Mondays & Thursdays
More detailed information about the new additions and changes will be explained in our January newsletter. Stay tuned!

Covid-19 Guidelines & Restrictions Continue
Keeping Kraver's safe
Vaccines are on the horizon! We're entering 2021 with some great news and some hope that we'll be able to get back to the things and activities we love. In the meantime, we're going to keep all the current guidelines in place. Face masks will still be required while in the facility and during training in the new year. Temperature checks will be done upon arrival. Equipment will be disinfected after use in every class. We also ask that if you believe you might have been in contact with someone exposed to Covid-19, to refrain from in-person training until the recommended quarantine period is completed.
We're looking forward to seeing everyone back in the new year! Thank you for your support!

Who's Sus?!?!
Time to game.... FDKM'er gamers
Uggghhh....2020 has cancelled all of the events and fun things we wanted to celebrate with you guys this year. It was a big year too!!!! No 10 year anniversary party, no Friendsgiving potluck, no Holiday party with our annual white elephant exchange, no game nights, no outing of the FUNS :(
Upon the return of Josh this past month or so.... I discovered that he enjoys playing Among Us! So, lets finish out the year playing some Among us together. What is Among us? It's a game where we need to figure out who the Impostors are, and kick them off the ship. Easy enough.... until murder and deception happen!!!!
It's a free game to download on your phone, tablets, and iPads. I think for our PC gamers there might be a small fee if you decide to play it that way. We're going to organize a game to play for Saturday evening December 26th at 7pm. I'll share the code to join the game on our Facebook Group Page. Hope you can make it!

Adios, 2020!
Moving forward
Well....That's all Folks!
The last newsletter of the year is short and brief....kinda like the amount of training we were all able to get in this year. Kinda funny to think this time last year, we were facing a whole host of different issues than we are this year. But like all the craziness and drama of last year, we came out of this one ok. We survived, whew!
We whole heartily really appreciate all the support our members gave us this year. Honestly, without it we wouldn't be open right now as I type this. I know how fortunate we have been to still keep our doors open and still be able to teach Krav Maga. Being the optimists, we are looking to improve things here at FDKM. Really streamline processes. Everything from our client side access to information to rebooting progression and learning systems. We hope that we get a chance to see many of you return in the new year, and invite new people to stop in try Krav Maga with us here at First Defense.
Happy Holidays! Have a fantastic, healthy, and safe New Year!
- Nick, Ann, & the First Defense Team

Reminders
If you have had an address change or need to update your credit card please remember to update it on MindBody or talk to Ann at the front desk. Only shoes that have never been worn outside are allowed on the mats for class. If you don't have indoor-only shoes, bare feet or socked feet are fine, but we highly recommend getting some shoes for class. This will help keep our mats clean free of dirt, grime, and germs from the outside. It is First Defense's policy that all men wear groin protection when they attend class. This is for your own safety. We do not want anyone to take a groin strike unprotected. We also want to remind all members that you should be wearing First Defense t-shirts and pants or shorts (w/ appropriate rank patch) when you're taking Krav Maga classes. You should also be wearing your hand wraps during class, especially the striking class. Not only do they provide protection to hands and wrists, they also soak up a lot of the sweat that will otherwise end up in the mitts and gloves.
