First Drops of Fall from FaithHopeandFiction.com

The first drops fell, kissing the ground with a benediction after a long, dry summer. In our backyard, I watched polka dots forming on the patio. A few spots, then a larger patch of wetness. The wind picked up, shaking pinecones and scattering leaves. So ordinary and yet so marvelous. Fall precipitation arrived late here in our part of Oregon as one forecast after the other made promises that could not be kept. And then, like all good things for which we wait, the rain came.

Despite the shorter days and longer nights—or perhaps, because of them—I savor this season. It draws me inward, reflecting and writing. My pace picks up, as if some ancient rhythm of the harvest still beats in my pulse. It is a gathering time—for stories, for family, for friendship.

Here’s what we have at FaithHopeandFiction.com:

My latest novel—The Secrets of the Old Post Cemetery—has been published by Woodhall Press. The third in my Ohnita Harbor Mystery Series, the book combines two-and-a-half centuries of history with a modern-day mystery—a tale of love, betrayal, murder, and a chance for redemption.

From our writers’ community, new stories and poetry including Coming in for a Landing, a short story of being lost and found, by Samantha Rae-Garvey; For Love of Poetry, two poems—Without Poetry and Simplest and Smallest—by Joseph Roque; and from my own pen, The Legend of Lizzie, Rainmaker that explores the mystical, magical, and meteorological.

Coming soon—our holiday issue which will start to appear in early November, with posts throughout December.
