Dear Discovery High School Community,
I am so honored to have been appointed as the new principal of Discovery High School by the Gwinnett Board of Education. I began my Gwinnett County career in the Norcross cluster, when in 1999, I was hired as a chemistry and physics teachers at Norcross High School. Since then I’ve spent several years at Hull Middle School as an Assistant Principal and had the opportunity open Trip Elementary in Grayson in 2008. For the past five years, I have served as the principal of Pinckneyville Middle School in Peachtree Corners.
I arrive at Discovery at a time in its short history, when the school is on a very positive trajectory. Student achievement is on the rise, our sports programs and student clubs are developing into thriving organizations, and our cluster schools are collaborating to create a climate of excellence for our students K-12. This summer we are working to fill any vacancies we have with caring teachers who have high expectations for learning and who care deeply about students. We are also focused on ensuring that we have everything in place for a smooth opening in August. We are all committed to creating a school environment that is safe and challenges our students with a rigorous, relevant, and engaging curriculum, while also providing our students with ways to be engaged in the school community outside of the classroom.
My husband and I live, work, and worship in Lawrenceville, and so have a vested interest in the success of not only Discovery High School, but of the entire cluster of schools. I look forward to seeing you at school events and in the community, and to partnering with you for the success of our students.
I will see you in August!
Marci Sledge, Principal
