And More Books!
Are you a book lover looking for a fun-filled Saturday? Then come on down to Cocoa Village Book Fest on April 8th from 10am to 3pm! This event is a paradise for bookworms, featuring over 30 talented authors in Myrt Tharpe Square as well as additional authors doing readings and signings in local businesses.
We welcome readers of all ages to meet writers, get some great books by local authors, and enjoy a book walk. What’s a book walk, you ask? It’s experiencing a children’s book as you walk through the village! This is a wonderful activity for the little ones and at the end of the story, you can meet the author and buy the book! In addition, stores throughout the village will have guest authors for the day, providing you with some literary enjoyment while you shop!
The Brevard County Mobile Library will also be there making sure you have access to your favorite books. And for the little ones, we have something special - a story walk where they can follow clues to the next page and explore the world of storytelling.

At the Elliott
Highwaymen — From the Street Corner to the Smithsonian
Through July 21
In the 1950s during the Jim Crow days, several African-American self-taught artists from the Treasure Coast began painting Florida’s vivid landscapes, looking for a better way to earn a livelihood. Coined as the “Highwaymen,” they sold their art out of their car trunks as they traveled the highways, which led to their nickname. Today, Highwaymen paintings have deservedly earned a place to hang in the Smithsonian, and several Highwaymen artists are represented in the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. Very few of the original 26 artists remain but fortunately, many of their paintings — which are now sought after by collectors worldwide — still do.
The Elliott Museum showcased their artwork last year and we are thrilled to present an all new, premier collection of their art that includes an extensive "Canvas Board Wall" of their early works, including Harold Newton, one of the founding members, along with a Tribute Wall to Roy McLendon, who was inspired by Newton, his neighbor.
