Member Highlight | Daniel Reskin
Daniel Reskin is a local comedian and Denver Open Media member, where he produces his Denver comedy talk show, Casa de Haha. We met Daniel when he performed at Open Music Sessions in July 2015. He gave an incredible performance, bonded with crew and staff, and won our monthly raffle for free basic membership and a free class. Daniel joined us for a tour, upgraded his membership and classes, and produced a promo and four episodes at DOM for Casa de Haha!

Daniel is an active community member, hosting for Open Music Sessions Countdown Show and Open Music Sessions. This past month he was interviewed by Westword to talk about his Music & Comedy Festival, Space Owl Alliance, where he spoke about how DOM helps him do his work and achieve his goals. We're excited to support him and happy he is a part of our great community of media-makers!

"Learning video production at Denver Open Media was just what I needed to keep fine-tuning my skills. As a comedian, the more things I can do, the more ways I can express myself and reach people. I figure if I want to shine on camera, I should know how that camera works. Having the teaching, equipment and community support all in one place was exactly what I needed to create something sustainable, while letting me tinker and grow on a new level."
- Daniel

View Daniel's work, Casa de Haha. You may recognize some of your favorite local comics. Enjoy!
Executive Director Letter
For the past few months, Open Media Foundation (OMF) has been engaged in the Fast Forward Accelerator , the first startup accelerator focusing solely on nonprofit tech efforts. Our Open Media Project (OMP), a Government Transparency Software-as-a-Service, was one of nine projects selected from across the country. The award included a $25,000 grant, over 200 hours of mentorship and coaching, and support in pitching our Government Transparency and Civic Engagement service to potential funders and partners across the country. We have big plans for this innovative little program: plans we'll be sharing at several conferences and demo days over the last two weeks of September.

"We recognized the enormous opportunity OMF had tapped into with their Open Media Project," says Shannon Farley of Fast Forward Accelerator. "Over half of the government bodies in the US serve small towns and cities with populations and budgets too small to be served by the commercial service providers, and OMF's innovative, low-cost solution was poised to serve a segment of the market that no one else is serving."

Featuring Live Music From The Symbols

The Symbols' breed of rock is intellectual and spiritual, with modern-day, deep-pocket grooves, where progressive female croon meets funking neo-soul vocals.

Rollicking - Rocking - Chill - Danceable - Sexy

The guitar string-bending, whammy bar manipulations are undeniably sexy.  Fans of The Symbols have come to agree that the sound is undoubtedly "Spiritual Porn Rock."

Meet Our New OMF Staff
Join us in welcoming our new  Video Production Manager,  Ellie Schmidt!

Ellie grew up in a small suburb outside of the Twin Cities and attended Winona State University where she earned a B.A. in History.  A few years ago she followed a passion and found herself back in school for screenwriting.  Ellie wrote and produced plays for the MN Shorts Festival and MN Fringe Festival before relocating to Denver with her husband.  A desire for creative collaboration led her to OMF, where she completed a Video Production and Editing internship.  She is excited to be part of a team that helps tell the stories of our community.
