2020 GlobalMindED
The Future of Work is Diverse, Inclusive, Just and Equitable
GlobalMindED closes the equity gap by creating a capable, diverse talent pipeline through connections to role models, mentors, internships for low-income students, returning adults, First Gen to college and inclusive leaders who teach them, work with them and hire them.
Dr. Raymond Cabrera is part of GlobalMindED's Latino Equity team.  He is a role model for all students and shares his story, his passion and his hope for inclusive leadership for those he serves at this pivotal time in our nation's history.
As Director of Upward Bound at the University of South Florida, and a First Gen Latino leader, can you tell us the path that led to your success and how emerging leaders can learn from your story?

"It takes a village to raise a child" is a phrase that applies to my life. Coming from a family of 7, I leaned on 5 of my older siblings to guide me through my educational journey. When I reflect back, it was community engagement with my local church that opened up pathways and knowledge of opportunities. From seeking test prep at my local community college to getting a scholarship to a college preparatory high school-those were critical services which made the possibility of going to college more attainable and real. I challenge all of us as educators to be active in helping others. It could be a conversation, a word of encouragement, or a direct link to opportunities that can make a world of difference in someone's life. Future leaders should surround themselves with people who can help and mentor. Also, with the power of technology, use these platforms to do research and get connected to opportunities and environments with a proven track record of success.

As our nation is experiencing a health pandemic and a racial injustice pandemic, what do you most want to say to young people at this pivotal moment in time?

While these past few months have been a paradigm shift in how we live, use this as an opportunity to be a part of the change. Their voice and actions matter and can create the transformation we want to see in society. We are looking to them and their accomplishments for what the next generation of American Culture can be. The ability to re-write the status quo should excite us all!

What do you most want to see in the world in the next decade?

My hope is for youth to feel encouraged about their future. We have to consistently evaluate the industry of work so we can focus on the human skill sets needed to be active and productive citizens. That will help inform our communication and relationships with youth to help them cultivate their paths.

GlobalMindED and the SDG Impact Fund are delighted to announce  GlobalMindED's Donor Advised Fund. 2020 is the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations and the 25th Anniversary of the Beijing Women's Declaration and Action Platform. Many from around the world are thinking of 2020 as the gateway to our most vital decade for delivering equity, the Sustainable Development Goals, and a world where all can thrive. Our key time for these outcomes is 2020-2030.

GlobalMindED DAF and the SDG Impact Fund are a powerful combined force for good as the 2019 year comes to a close and we reflect on the gratitude and the commitments we make to the causes we care most about. The DAF offers immense power and flexibility for giving prior to the year's end as you plant seeds of generous intention for 2020 and the decade ahead.

When you contribute to GlobalMindED, you support First Gen students. We have served more than 400 students by connecting them to role models, mentors, internships and jobs. Your generous support will allow us to take our work 10x and reach these talented students at scale who lack the resources and support we provide. Your support also helps teachers who can't afford the conference fees, faculty at colleges which are under resourced and students who persist at those universities despite food insecurity and/or housing insecurity.
