Pastor Mike Ramsdell will be leading a free Men’s Conference on Saturday, May 21, from 9:00 AM to Noon in the Family Life Center of First Grapevine. In this interactive study from the Book of Nehemiah we will look at ways to strengthen our lives, our relationships, our church, and our community with the guidance of a Bible Book aimed clearly at anyone who wants to discover guidance for decisions and choices that lead us in the Christian life as well as lead into a new future God is always calling us into. Nehemiah was a man living a very comfortable life, already a success in many ways, who found himself in a very different place when he authentically made himself available to God.

Key verse “When I heard these things I sat down and wept!” (Nehemiah 1:4) What makes you cry?

All men are invited, Church and community. So bring your friends.

Rooted In Love: Presence
We are continuing our Stories of Stewardship. This week's story from Nancy Baku shows how engaging in Sunday services can lead to friendships and a deeper commitment to serving God.

This is the first church in many years that I have been a member of where I actually want to be engaged. My involvement began at the Heritage location about seven years ago. Pastor Rick made an impression on me. Meeting Annette Sowell clinched my longing for a spiritual journey that I didn’t realize I was lacking. Their deep love for God and awareness that God loves us all was genuine, and I wanted that. When that location closed, I became involved with our main location. My dear friend, Betty Turner, was also new to First Church. We would sit together at the 11:00 traditional service most Sundays. Betty volunteered in the office and was soon helping Sandy with projects for Family Ministries. Flat Jesus was the first project. It wasn’t long before she roped me into helping her. I was hooked. We began by preparing Sunday School lessons for the elementary and tween classes each week. Once we committed to this task, it grew into other projects and deep friendships with the Family Ministries team.

The Pandemic was hard for all of us. Clinging to my church helped me cope with the necessary isolation. Preparing “at home” packets for families, special holiday treats, and helping my church dive wholeheartedly into keeping contact with members and being a part of that remains extremely fulfilling. Proofing E-News, cooking for The Slab, and still preparing Sunday School lessons are tasks I particularly enjoy. First Grapevine has so many opportunities for us to engage as deeply, or as "shallowly", as we are comfortable. All are truly welcome and appreciated. I recommend finding your own way to serve God.

I still regularly attend church remotely more often than “in person,” appreciating the options. I am grateful to have found a church home where pastors and staff are accessible, where I can volunteer my time and talents, and feel the love and support which is freely given.

If you feel led to make a stewardship commitment, please visit FirstGrapevine.org/commit.

Volunteer Help Needed at JFON Immigration Clinics

At Justice For Our Neighbors North Central Texas, volunteerism is a part of our charter. We are expected to extend our services with only a very small paid staff. The rest is up to the volunteers to make our organization work - to make us grow. Justice For Our Neighbors NCTx is a conference-affiliated ministry where we extend a warm welcome to our immigrant neighbors! Whether you volunteer a couple of hours a month or several hours a week, you can make a real difference! To learn more about JFON NCTx, visit www.jfondfw.org. Then contact Pastor Allen Lutes to begin making life better as we turn strangers into neighbors! If you think you have no skills that will help our immigrant neighbors, come to a clinic day and smile at people. I bet you have other talents as well. Our first clinic will be held from 10-2 on Saturday, May 7 in the FLC.
For more information, please contact Pastor Allen ([email protected]).

GCISD School Needs
First Grapevine has long been in partnership with the GCISD.  As we continue our relationship with our local schools, there are many ways that we as a church and individuals can help our students, teachers, and all involved in the education of our children. Please see below for what is needed and prayerfully consider how you can serve.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters
Consider being a mentor! Volunteers are asked to become a “Big” to a “Little,” which is the student/volunteer match. Bigs will spend one hour a week, two to four times a month for a full year with their Little. Mentors meet with their students on their campus and the main focus of the relationship is mentoring and positive support. Activities are based on each student's needs and could include helping with homework, talking, playing games, and eating lunch together. A Match Support Specialist will communicate regularly with the Big and Little to ensure a healthy and safe relationship is being established.

Backup Clothing
Our elementary schools are in need of extra shorts, underwear, and wipes for little accidents that happen during the day. Please bring new items for girls and boys in sizes 4-10 to the atriums of our worship services on April 17.

Thank you for your support of our local school.

Sincerely,

Pastor Allen Lutes

Carter Care Blood Drive

First Grapevine’s Palm Sunday Blood Drive was very successful! Thirty-seven donors were seen, there were several deferrals that weren’t able to give, but we still managed to exceed our goal. Thirty-two units of blood were collected which is enough to save 96 lives! Carter Care gave a $15 donation toward Ukraine relief for everyone who gave blood, totaling $555 in help for Ukrainians.

John D. Jetters, Jr., a traveling Gideon representative, attended worship at our church on Sunday. Due to the appeals made by our ministers, John decided to donate blood, making the extra effort to give at our drive just exemplifies his caring nature and those of the Gideons. He stated that they have placed Bibles in all 50 states and 62 countries.

Of course, we can attribute most of our success to our faithful members. They continue to amaze me at each drive! I cannot express the gratitude I feel for each and every one of them. Thanks, also go to Pastor Grant Palma and Pastor Carly Payne who encouraged Sunday worship attendees to go and donate. We had many walk-ins due to their efforts. Also, thanks to Carol Rigdon, who sat in for me, so I could join the choir during worship, to Priscilla Sanchez for advertising, Sanders Barton for the set-up of equipment needed, Jeff Mullins for seeking approval and adjusting the temperature required, and to our wonderful church for providing the space.

Our next drive will be on Sunday, July 17.
