Holy Week Organ Concert Series
April 11,13-15 | 12 PM | Sanctuary

The Music Ministry of First Grapevine is presenting its first ever Noontime Organ Concert Series, taking place Monday, April 11, Wednesday, April 13, Holy Thursday, April 14, and Good Friday, April 15.

Each day at Noon, a talented DFW organist will offer a 30-40 minute music presentation appropriate for Holy Week.

On Monday, concert organist Bradley Welch will perform a varied and wide-ranging program of organ selections. Bradley is Artist-in-Residence for Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas, and also serves as the the resident organist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Bradley is no stranger to the First Grapevine organ, as he was the musician who re-dedicated the current instrument upon the addition of its new acoustic organ pipes in 2016.

On Wednesday, organist Ken Surley will present a selection of reflective organ pieces appropriate for this Lenten Season. Ken is organist at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church where he has served for 30 years. He is certified by the American Guild of Organists, and has played literally all over the world accompanying various choirs and ensembles.

On Thursday, well-known organist and pianist Scott Ayers will provide a wonderful program of organ and piano selections. Scott is the former organist of Highland Park United Methodist Church, and currently hosts a popular weekly Facebook Live broadcast where he plays arrangements of hymn requests which he takes online. Part of Scott's program will be taking requests, so come with your favorite hymn in mind, and perhaps you'll hear a masterful piano rendition.

On Friday, our own organist and master musician Linda Love will be offering a program of Hymns and Prayers, appropriate to the sacredness of Good Friday. Linda has had a long career as an organist, accompanist, and vocal coach, and currently serves as pianist and organist for First Grapevine, as well as the director of the Fishers of Men men's ensemble.

Admission is free and open to the public, and donations will be accepted after each performance. These proceeds will be sent to the United Methodist Committee on Relief for the purposes of humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

You will not want to miss any of our amazing presenters. Mark your calendar to attend this new, annual event!

Holy Thursday Worship

Good Friday Worship
April 15 | 7:00 PM | Sanctuary

We invite you to join us on Good Friday, April 15, as we remember and reflect on Jesus' trial and crucifixion. For this Service of Darkness, we will extinguish candles, symbolizing how the light of Christ was momentarily extinguished from the earth upon Jesus' death. This is a powerful service you will surely want to experience in order to fully rejoice in Christ's triumph over death on Easter Sunday.

GCISD School Needs
First Grapevine has long been in partnership with the GCISD.  As we continue our relationship with our local schools, there are many ways that we as a church and individuals can help our students, teachers, and all involved in the education of our children. Please see below for what is needed and prayerfully consider how you can serve.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters
Consider being a mentor! Volunteers are asked to become a “Big” to a “Little,” which is the student/volunteer match. Bigs will spend one hour a week, two to four times a month for a full year with their Little. Mentors meet with their students on their campus and the main focus of the relationship is mentoring and positive support. Activities are based on each student's needs and could include helping with homework, talking, playing games, and eating lunch together. A Match Support Specialist will communicate regularly with the Big and Little to ensure a healthy and safe relationship is being established.

Backup Clothing
Our elementary schools are in need of extra shorts, underwear, and wipes for little accidents that happen during the day. Please bring new items for girls and boys in sizes 4-10 to the atriums of our worship services on April 3 and 10.

Thank you for your support of our local school.

Sincerely,

Pastor Allen Lutes

Stephen Minister Training
We’ve all gone through many unique life changes in recent years; job changes, isolation, death, divorce, sickness, aging, and many other life struggles!

Stephen Ministry is a confidential, Christian caring ministry that partners with the clergy of our church to care for the needs of our congregation. We are laypeople, like you, who feel called by the Holy Spirit to use our spiritual gifts to care for those who are hurting around us. We will be starting a new class in early May. Classes should last once a week for about 10 weeks. If you already have travel plans at that time, we can work with you to make up any classes you might miss. You provide the heart to serve and the ears to listen and we’ll provide the training.

Please prayerfully consider this great opportunity to serve God, your church, and others. Our church family needs you to become a Stephen Minister! Click below to complete an application, or you can call the church office to ask for an application, talk with Pastor Allen Lutes (allenl@fumcg.org), or contact Julie Croft (juliecroft@hotmail.com) for more information.

Confirmation Sunday

Confirmation Creed: I believe that God created this world and everything in it. God is everywhere and interacts with us in ways that we cannot comprehend.
I believe that Jesus is the son of God who died on the cross for our sins, and rose from the dead 3 days later.
I believe that the Holy Spirit guides us in our daily life.
I believe that the church is a home - a place to connect with your community and God.
I believe that the Bible is something to help guide us in the right direction and is a resource for teaching us.
I believe heaven is a place to be with God once you finish your journey on earth.
I believe that love is in all of us and that love should be given to everyone.
I believe that sin can be forgiven by God but it may take time to forgive yourself.
We are excited about our ministry and missional events. This is just a friendly reminder that we have some procedures to make your ministry or missional events successful. Our Media and Communication Guide lists deadlines for e-news, updates to the website, ministry spotlights, videos, and more. The First Grapevine Brand Identity Standard Guide will help to ensure that your marketing materials are in line with the church's brand standards. If you have an upcoming event, be sure to let us know by filling out the Room Request form on our website (FirstGrapevine.org/roomrequest) or by entering it into ServiceU so that our staff can help make your event possible. We couldn't do church without you. Thank you for helping others experience and share God's love!
