Come to Church on Sunday as we continue the 6 Dumb Things We Do To Mess Up Our Lives series, with the message "Attempting To Spend Oneself Into Happiness."
We will be discussing trying to buy our own happiness. Learning to separate what really matters from what does not is the key to abundant living, peace, and real purpose. Advertisers continually seek to create a culture of discontent, having done so, they are then able to offer a product or a lifestyle that is promoted to create content, peace, and even happiness. And if someone is unhappy or insecure, they might be tempted to try this solution to improve how they feel, when the solution is always God. We were created to be content only in God and from that place of contentment, make our financial and life choice decisions. Often patterns are created in us that seem to be quick feel-good fixes that later feel bad or we pay a heavy price for. Setting clear boundaries and priorities based upon the teaching of Jesus is the answer.

Town Hall Meeting
May 25 | 7 PM | Sanctuary
First Grapevine is scheduling a church-wide town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 25, at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary Church-wide means anyone who desires can join us. Pastor Grant and Pastor Mike will lead this meeting.
First Grapevine is in a very good place in our life and mission: beginning a new worship service, celebrating our graduating seniors, preparing for a special Pentecost Sunday, and a great summer season of children’s and mission ministries.
But in this same season surrounding us is the denominational disunity that creates broader issues we don’t have much control over (we live in a very divided world). We know there are many questions people are asking, and we want to answer them as best we can. Our Executive Team (our old Administrative Board) has discussed much of this, and we feel like we are in a good place as we prepare for what’s next as a faithful church of Jesus Christ with a history that goes back to 1866.
Prayers for our church and the community God has called us to serve.
-Pastor Grant Palma and Pastor Mike Ramsdell

Pentecost Sunday
June 5 | 8:30 - 12:30 PM
Sunday, June 5, is Pentecost Sunday. First Grapevine is planning a big celebration and opportunity for that Sunday. Pentecost has long been seen as the birthday of the Church. On that day, just a few weeks after the Resurrection, people gathered in the upper room outside the temple in Jerusalem. God filled them with the Holy Spirit, they burst forth into the surrounding area, spoke the glories of God, Peter preached an amazing sermon, and 3,000 were baptized and added to the brand-new Church that day. Because we would like to have enough time for the sacrament of baptism and remembrance of baptisms, we will move the sacrament of communion in all services to the second Sunday in June (June 12).
- Wear red. Red is the color of Pentecost, and it signifies the tongues of flames seen over the heads of those praying together. The Scripture also tells us that the sound of the blowing of a violent wind filled the house where Jesus' followers were praying.
- We will celebrate everyone and every family who united with our Church in the previous year, including all our young people who were confirmed.
-
We will offer a special invitation to church membership for everyone who has yet to join our Church and has been looking forward to that opportunity. Online guests may join our Church by completing the form at FirstGrapevine.org/become-a-member
-
We will offer all guests and visitors who want to learn more about our Church an invitation to meet the pastors on Wednesday, June 8 at 6:30 PM in Leach Hall.
-
We will offer a time to remember your baptism for those who want to reaffirm their faith in Jesus Christ in this special way (Also by immersion, sprinkling, and pouring). Let Us Know If You Would Like To Remember Your Baptism. Please note "Remembering Baptism" in the Comment section of the form if you plan to be immersed.

Men's Conference:
Arise and Build: A Man’s Challenge from the Book of Nehemiah
June 18 | 9 - 12 | Family Life Center
Pastor Mike Ramsdell will be leading a free Men’s Conference on Saturday, June 18, from 9:00 AM to noon in the Family Life Center of First Grapevine. In this interactive study from the Book of Nehemiah we will look at ways to strengthen our lives, our relationships, our church, and our community with the guidance of a Bible Book aimed clearly at anyone who wants to discover guidance for decisions and choices that lead us in the Christian life as well as lead into a new future God is always calling us into. Nehemiah was a man living a very comfortable life, already a success in many ways, who found himself in a very different place when he authentically made himself available to God.
Key verse “When I heard these things I sat down and wept!” (Nehemiah 1:4) What makes you cry?
All men are invited, Church and community. So bring your friends.

Home-bound Love First Team
First Grapevine UMC has many members who are unable to physically attend church anymore for a variety of reasons. While they are still cared for by the pastoral staff and friends, we would like to ensure that they still are connected to the faith life of our church. We are creating a team of lay people who will commit to visiting our home-bound members at least quarterly, send cards and extend the love of this congregation to them at their homes. You can commit to having one or several “home buddies” to visit. If you would like to be a part of this important ministry, please contact Pastor Allen at ( allenl@fumcg.org).

Summer Sunday School Volunteers
Will you consider taking a week, a month, the summer, whatever you can offer and teach a children’s Sunday school class?
Our regular Sunday school leaders faithfully teach during the school year and we want them to enjoy a summer break. Don’t let the thought of teaching scare you. We set you up for success.
The curriculum volunteers, Nancy Baku, Tommie Weir, Dawn Martin, Kim Evans and Betty Turner work very hard to make sure everything you need is ready to go and in the classroom. We send you the lessons by Wednesday and you walk in the classroom ready to go. Requirements are ministry safe trained (we’ll schedule that for you) and willingness to have fun with the kids. Time is 9:30 AM-10:45 AM.

The Codicil Club was introduced at the May 3rd Legacy Dinner by Endowment Committee Member John Erickson to ensure the perpetuity of funds for the maintenance and care of our church facilities. You can designate the First Grapevine Endowment Fund in the Codicil of your Will to receive a percentage of your estate, a percentage of the equity in Real Estate (Home, Second Home, or Land), or a percentage of stocks, bonds, or other securities. This can result in considerable tax advantages for you and your heirs. It can also save heirs from the challenges of disposing of real estate assets.
All gifts are subject to First Grapevine’s Gift Acceptance Policies. If you need legal advice, we do have attorneys to recommend. The codicil club form can be completed and sent to Steve Allen (stevea@fumcg.org).

The thefts have been reported to the authorities and they have begun an investigation into these criminal incidents. Support Our Troops
On Sunday, May 15 we packed 64 boxes to send to the troops which is an amazing shipment of goods. Numerous people helped in a variety of ways for our Support Our Troop collections which made the donation drive a huge success. Donna Chabot is on the Board of Directors for Support Our Troops Texas which funds the money to ship all of our donations and she helps us pack. Donna also brought Sally Baggott, a S.O.T. volunteer, to help. Boxes will be shipped to Egypt, South Korea, Japan, the waters around Greece, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and Germany which include personal hygiene products. Church member 2nd Lt Graham Ryan will also receive boxes. We were able to donate some remaining items to Feed Our Kids.
