-- Week of May 25, 2022 --
This Weekend
Join us this Sunday for the last of the 6 Dumb Things We Do To Mess Up Our Lives series. This week we will hear the message "Neglecting Relationships."

Everything that matters in life comes from a relationship. We are often too busy with work, school, and life and we don’t take the time to connect with those we love and we may start neglecting relationships. This includes the relationship with God. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6).”
Worship with us in person or online

Monday, May 30 is Memorial Day, when we honor soldiers who have given their lives while serving in the American armed forces. In observance of Memorial Day, the church office will be closed.
Looking Ahead
Pentecost Sunday, June 5 | 8:30 - 12:30 PM

Sunday, June 5, is Pentecost Sunday. First Grapevine is planning a big celebration and opportunity for that Sunday. Pentecost has long been seen as the birthday of the Church. On that day, just a few weeks after the Resurrection, people gathered in the upper room outside the temple in Jerusalem. God filled them with the Holy Spirit, they burst forth into the surrounding area, spoke the glories of God, Peter preached an amazing sermon, and 3,000 were baptized and added to the brand-new Church that day. Because we would like to have enough time for the sacrament of baptism and remembrance of baptisms, we will move the sacrament of communion in all services to the second Sunday in June (June 12).

  • Wear red. Red is the color of Pentecost, and it signifies the tongues of flames seen over the heads of those praying together. The Scripture also tells us that the sound of the blowing of a violent wind filled the house where Jesus' followers were praying.

  • In each Worship space, we will have a red rose in celebration of everyone and every family who united with our Church in the previous year, including all our young people who were confirmed.

  • We will offer a special invitation to church membership for everyone who has yet to join our Church and has been looking forward to that opportunity. Online guests may join our Church by completing the form at FirstGrapevine.org/become-a-member

  • We will offer all guests and visitors who want to learn more about our Church an invitation to meet the pastors on Wednesday, June 8 at 6:30 PM in Leach Hall.

  • We will offer a time to remember your baptism for those who want to reaffirm their faith in Jesus Christ in this special way (Also by immersion or sprinkling). Let Us Know If You Would Like To Remember Your Baptism. Please note "Remembering Baptism" in the Comment section of the form if you plan to be immersed.
Town Hall Meeting
May 25 | 7 PM | Sanctuary

First Grapevine is scheduling a church-wide town hall meeting on Wednesday, May 25, at 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary Church-wide means anyone who desires can join us. Pastor Grant and Pastor Mike will lead this meeting.

First Grapevine is in a very good place in our life and mission: beginning a new worship service, celebrating our graduating seniors, preparing for a special Pentecost Sunday, and a great summer season of children’s and mission ministries.

But in this same season surrounding us is the denominational disunity that creates broader issues we don’t have much control over (we live in a very divided world). We know there are many questions people are asking, and we want to answer them as best we can. Our Executive Team (our old Administrative Board) has discussed much of this, and we feel like we are in a good place as we prepare for what’s next as a faithful church of Jesus Christ with a history that goes back to 1866.

Prayers for our church and the community God has called us to serve.

-Pastor Grant Palma and Pastor Mike Ramsdell

Arise and Build: A Man’s Challenge from the Book of Nehemiah
June 18 | 9 - 12 | Family Life Center

Pastor Mike Ramsdell will be leading a free Men’s Conference on Saturday, June 18, from 9:00 AM to noon in the Family Life Center of First Grapevine. In this interactive study from the Book of Nehemiah we will look at ways to strengthen our lives, our relationships, our church, and our community with the guidance of a Bible Book aimed clearly at anyone who wants to discover guidance for decisions and choices that lead us in the Christian life as well as lead into a new future God is always calling us into. Nehemiah was a man living a very comfortable life, already a success in many ways, who found himself in a very different place when he authentically made himself available to God.

Key verse “When I heard these things I sat down and wept!” (Nehemiah 1:4) What makes you cry?

All men are invited, Church and community. So bring your friends.

Serving Opportunities
Ukrainian Refugees

Refugee services of Texas anticipates approximately 3,000-5,000 Ukrainian refugees will be resettled in Texas in the coming months. Through our partnership with them, we want to expand on our current refugee ministry team to welcome as many as we can. There will be opportunities to donate furniture, clothing and household needs as well as serve on a team to welcome them to their new home in our area and extend hospitality and a warm Texas welcome. If you would like to join this team to help with these families, please contact Pastor Allen (allenl@fumcg.org) Thank you for your prayers and support of this ministry.
Home-bound Love First Team

First Grapevine UMC has many members who are unable to physically attend church anymore for a variety of reasons. While they are still cared for by the pastoral staff and friends, we would like to ensure that they still are connected to the faith life of our church. We are creating a team of lay people who will commit to visiting our home-bound members at least quarterly, send cards and extend the love of this congregation to them at their homes. You can commit to having one or several “home buddies” to visit. If you would like to be a part of this important ministry, please contact Pastor Allen at (allenl@fumcg.org).
Summer Sunday School Volunteers

Will you consider taking a week, a month, the summer, whatever you can offer and teach a children’s Sunday school class?

Our regular Sunday school leaders faithfully teach during the school year and we want them to enjoy a summer break. Don’t let the thought of teaching scare you. We set you up for success.

The curriculum volunteers, Nancy Baku, Tommie Weir, Dawn Martin, Kim Evans and Betty Turner work very hard to make sure everything you need is ready to go and in the classroom. We send you the lessons by Wednesday and you walk in the classroom ready to go. Requirements are ministry safe trained (we’ll schedule that for you) and willingness to have fun with the kids. Time is 9:30 AM-10:45 AM.

Gary Ingram Obituary
Gary Ingram, 70, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2022, in Florida after a long battle with cancer. He was born January 2, 1952, in McKinney, Texas, to parents Melba and Crate Ingram.

Growing up, Gary lived in many different cities and states. Ultimately, he found his home of many years in Texas, where he dutifully devoted thirty-one years of service to the community as a firefighter for the City of North Richland Hills. He retired in 2008 at the rank of Battalion Chief. Fire safety was his true passion. He was also a member of the Crash Crew at Texas Motor Speedway and for NASCAR at multiple races across the country and Mexico. After he retired from NRHFD, he spent several years as a Safety Officer for TAS Environmental Services. In 2013, at the age of 60, he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management Administration from West Texas A&M University. He was proud to finish his degree and was the second oldest student in his graduating class.

Outside of work, Gary enjoyed many things. He was a Grapevine First Grapevine Music Team member, first in the choir and then in the Contemporary service band. He extended numerous volunteer efforts for the church during his thirty-six years in Grapevine. Aside from his passion for music and his church community, he found joy in the following activities: collecting Hard Rock pins, jam sessions with his music buddies, Bible study with his men’s group, Texas Rangers baseball, collecting hats/ball caps, McMurry University baseball, playing golf, tinkering, and listening to any music, especially The Beatles.

Gary was a devoted man of God his whole life and leaned on his faith even at the end of his life, trusting in God that he had fulfilled God’s plan for him on this Earth. Gary was not afraid to die; rather, he found comfort knowing that God was calling him Home and his glorious journey into the Kingdom of God had begun.

Gary is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gay, his son Sam and his wife Katy, and daughter Sarah and her husband, Shawn. Gary was also blessed with five grandchildren: Payton (10), Brooklyn (8), Bailey (8), Luke (6), and Gavin (5).

And God shall wipe away all the tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more pain; for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms 23:4

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made to First United Methodist Church Grapevine Endowment Fund (FirstGrapevine.org/give) or Guns and Hoses of North Texas (1891 Forest Ln, Garland, TX 75042; 972-880-8095).
