ISPE 2024 Annual Meeting in Berlin

We look forward to welcoming you to the ISPE 2024 Annual Meeting in Berlin! The event will take place from 24 to 28 August at the Estrel Conference Center. The conference center is located on the Berlin Ring—a 37-km long railway line in the approximate shape of a circle, with trains running clockwise and counter-clockwise. I hope you will also enjoy the venue´s waterfront area across the street. Our Local Host Committee has prepared a Visitor´s Guide with information on the city and its neighborhoods, public transport, restaurants, museums, tipping suggestions, and other details. Embracing the Diversity of Real-Word Data Sources

With the growing consideration and acceptance of real-world evidence (RWE) by regulatory agencies and health technology assessment bodies in decision-making, the use of real-world data sources (RWDS) has become an ever-increasing interest of the ISPE community. A diverse array of RWDS is being used in pharmacoepidemiologic research. With new approaches to generate and harness different types of health-related data, the diversity will only continue to increase, bringing greater challenges and opportunities for our field. ISPE Funded Manuscripts
There were 14 proposals submitted for the 2023 Call for Funded Manuscript Program. A total of 6 manuscript writing teams were awarded funds to develop their manuscript. In total, ISPE provided $49,900 in support of the Funded Manuscript Program. Congratulations to the writing teams! Continue reading.

What’s New at the Drug-Drug Interaction (DDI) SIG?

Quarterly Journal Clubs
The DDI SIG hosts quarterly journal clubs, offering a platform for sharing and discussing the latest DDI research. In December 2023, Dr. Macarius Donneyong shared his experience using “A data mining approach for the discovery of potentially high- and low-risk high-order drug combinations from real world data.” In March 2024, Dr. Antonios Douros delivered a compelling talk on “Time-Varying Exposure Definitions in Drug-Drug Interactions,” using real-world examples to illustrate the design. In June 2024, Dr. Sungho Bae presented his recent publication on the impact of combining Sodium-Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitors with Overactive Bladder Drugs on urinary tract infection risk, which received high praise. Celebrating 40 years of ISPE

Did you know that the first five ISPE (formerly known as ICPE) meetings were held in Minneapolis, Minnesota (United States), and it was at the fifth meeting that the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology was officially launched by Stanley Edlavitch, David Lilienfeld, and Hugh Tilson?
History matters because it is the laboratory of human experience. Data from our past provides an extensive evidence-base to help inform our present and our future. Continue reading.
