A Prayer for the Lenten Journey

Lent begins this week. The Lenten journey, to which we all are invited, is a journey in the Wilderness. Wilderness is a place without a map, a place of wandering and wondering, yet a place where we are often surprised by God’s presence. Our Lenten journey in the Wilderness is a journey of risking letting our faith be re-formed as we follow the way our Lord walked.

A prayer that has helped me gain focus on this journey is one shared by some Scottish friends. I commend it to you.

Lord Jesus Christ;
you called your disciples to go forward with you
on the way of the cross.

Since you first walked that road
countless millions have followed you.

In all that we do as your disciples,
save us from false familiarity with your journey.
May we never presume to step into your shoes,
but make us small enough to fit our own,
and to walk in love and wonder behind you. [i]
                                                                                               Amen

Grace and peace,

Pete

This past Sunday we had a great turn out at our Lenten Lunch where Rev. Lisle Gwynn Garrity led us in an introduction to the devotional "Wilderness" that she and her colleagues from A Sanctified Art have put together. Please make sure to pick up a copy of this devotional to take home and use as your guide as we journey through Lent.
We invite you to Ash Wednesday worship on February 26th at 6:30 pm.  We will gather in the sanctuary for the Imposition of Ashes and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.  Nursery childcare is provided.
Our congregation will be preparing and serving Sunday supper at Triune Mercy Center on Sunday, March 22. If you are interested in participating in this local mission opportunity, please speak to Louis Adams, FPCG Triune Deacon or Whitney.
Thank you for your continued support of the Backpack Buddies Pantry.  Thanks to your generosity, each weeks bags are packed for weekend supplemental food for students at Dunbar Child Development Center and Greer Middle School.  Current Pantry Needs: small cereal boxes, pop-tarts, small cans of veggies, and juice boxes. We took 10 youth and 5 youth advisors snow tubing in Hendersonville, NC on Sunday afternoon and had a blast tubing together with lots of laughter, screams of delight, and good conversation on the drive there and back. We continue to build positive energy and

We also had 14 youth and 6 youth advisors at the congregational Lenten lunch program with Reverand Lisle Gwynn Garrity.

We now have 18 youth advisors who are building relationships with our middle and high school youth and helping to pass on the faith and connect our youth to the wider congregation. Please continue to pray for our youth and their youth advisors.
