Welcome to 2023!

Happy first newsletter of 2023! CRCSD thanks you for taking the time to review our newsletters; we are pleased to continue sharing informational items and achievements which are happening throughout the District.

Today marks the end of the first semester, with the second semester beginning on Wednesday, January 11. Today, finals are wrapping up for high school students. Eighth grade students are beginning to explore their options with courses being offered in their first year of high school. And elementary fifth graders will soon be offered opportunities to understand what middle school has in store for them. Between now and the end of the school year, a lot of learning will be taking place. Teachers are educating our students; student goals are being achieved; and minds are expanding with knowledge.

Reminder, No School January 9 and 10

Just a reminder - There will be no school for students on Monday, January 9, and Tuesday, January 10, as these dates are dedicated to staff professional learning days.

Staff will focus on three main areas as they prepare for the second semester: curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and social/emotional learning.

Winter Weather Make-Up Day Announced

Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we have navigated weather situations the past week. We appreciate your support as we continue to keep safety our top priority.

As we begin to plan for making-up the “no school day” for students that occurred on Wednesday, January 4th, we’d like to communicate with you that CRCSD will use the identified calendar date of Monday, February 27th. This means that students and staff will now report to school on that date as the make-up date for Wednesday, January 4th. If there is a need for additional “no school days”, those make-up dates will be added to the end of the school year. Again, thank you for your continued support.

Update on the Superintendent Search

The Board of Education held a Special Board Meeting on January 3rd to meet with their Superintendent Search Firm, Hazard, Young, and Attea and Associates. The meeting provided the consultants with an opportunity to outline a framework for upcoming interview sessions with superintendent candidates. The first round of interviews will occur according to Iowa law on Friday, January 6, and Saturday, January 7. After round one, the Board will narrow the pool of candidates for a second round of interviews to be held later in the month.
