🧋Boba Tea Served Up Daily by a Couple of CabCo Classmates

Contributor: Jamie Richardson

B&K Tea Cafe just opened its second location in the West Ave. District of Kannapolis!

😋 You are probably reading this article from 1 of 2 perspectives…. “OMG! I’m obsessed with Boba tea and can’t wait to try out BOTH B&K Tea Cafe locations” OR “What in the world is Boba tea????”

  • Boba tea can be referenced in a lot of different ways: bubble tea, pearl tea, bubble milk tea, boba, boba fruit tea, or tapioca tea. I'll be honest, it was pretty confusing at first, but to make it simple, when someone says, ‘Boba tea’, they are referencing a traditionally cold-served beverage that has a tea base, a milk or fruit flavor, and edible pearls (the ‘boba’ in boba tea) inside a cup.

Co-owners Bobby Cain and Kristen Compton were both born in Kannapolis and attended high school and college (UNC) together. They worked at a Boba tea shop in Winston-Salem and found they “had a passion for customer service and the art of premium bubble tea.” The owners of the tea shop took them under their wing and taught them the ropes.

  • After graduation, they returned to Kannapolis and opened a Boba tea food truck. “We wanted to bring something cool/trendy to our hometown.”

Read the entire article which includes more details about their journey as business owners and a link to a video of them making an actual Boba tea.

🥚 Order Your Hand-Painted Wooden Eggs Before March 10

Contributor: Jamie Richardson

Annual Junior Charity League of Concord Fundraiser celebrates 31 years with another unique design.

This year’s Easter gnome is the latest in a long line of unique designs for the Junior Charity League (JCL) of Concord’s annual fundraiser. The JCL has hand-painted wooden eggs for the past 31 years, and since 1992, no two years have ever had the same design.

  • From Easter bunnies, spring chickens, and a patriotic tribute in 2002 to this year’s Easter gnome, these adorable wooden eggs have become a collector’s item in Cabarrus County and only a rare few people have a complete set.

How can you place an order? Each egg is hand-painted, which means no two are ever identical and can also be personalized with a first name and the year. Visit their website before March 10, 2023, for more details or to place an order.

🚑 🧑‍🚒 In 1967, the JCL introduced Safety Town, a program that is still held yearly in Cabarrus County, to educate rising kindergarteners about age-appropriate safety issues. However, the League’s primary service program today is the Mariam C. Schramm Clothing Room, which opened in 1973 and is named after the JCL’s first president. It serves economically disadvantaged children in Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City Schools. This summer, the JCL is planning a 50-Year Community Celebration to commemorate the anniversary.

Read our full article online to learn more about the history of the JCL in Cabarrus County, the impact the clothing room and other programs have on children in our community, and the many ways you can get involved.

Cigar Loft Owner Took His Passion and Made a Living Out of It

Contributor: Jamie Richardson

Derek Kilgore has been passionate about cigars for over a decade, which is why he opened The Cigar Loft in January 2020.

Whether you are a cigar aficionado or a novice looking to learn more, The Cigar Loft has something for everyone. Kilgore opened his business right before the pandemic and is now surrounded by the courthouse and apartment construction in the middle of downtown Concord. But the oasis he has created, tucked away on the second floor of the building at 76 Union Street, keeps members coming back again and again.

  • The Cigar Loft offers a great selection of more than 250 different types of premium cigars, including respected names and boutique brands like ARTURO FUENTE, AJ FERNANDEZ, DAVIDOFF & MORALES.

“It's a great atmosphere. Derek and Aaron are very knowledgeable when it comes to cigars and what type of whiskey goes great with them. I love going there.” - Chris Curry

The Cigar Loft is a private club, but Derek adds a lot of value to the membership cost by offering workshops that include learning how to hand roll cigars and Fumas (component) tastings. He also invites cigar brand representatives to come out and share their products. It’s a chance for people to learn more about particular brands and sometimes buy off-market cigars. He likes to bring the experts to his clients.

Learn more about The Cigar Loft experience and take a virtual tour of the beautiful space on their website.
