Culver Summer Schools & Camps Families,

As first permit weekend approaches, we wanted to send out a couple of updates and reminders. Please note that many of these processes have changed, so please take the time to read the information below carefully.

How do I sign my child out?
If a camper is going on permit, he/she must sign out at the correct designated location below based on his/her unit:

Logansport Gate: Deck 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7
Eppley Auditorium Drive (backside loop): Deck 5 and 6
Main Guard/Sally Port: All Naval, Horsemanship, and Aviation Units

Woodcraft Library: All Woodcraft Girls and Boys (Butterflies, Cardinals, Cubs and Beavers)
Can my child go on permit with another family?

With proper authorization, your child may leave campus with another family or you have the option of taking your child’s friend on permit.
NEW IN 2021: Authorized adults must be added as "Trusted Contacts" in the Campdocs system prior to permit day. The “Trusted Contacts” link is on the parent’s dashboard in Campdocs, which you can access by logging into your account on the Summer Parent Portal here. Any person dropping off a camper or picking up a camper, at the start, during, or end of camp, must be added as a “Trusted Contact” in order for them to go on permit with that person.

If you know your child will be going on permit with another family, please take a moment to update your account. Families will not be able to add authorized adults during permit weekend checkout.

What do I do with my camper on permit?
While off-campus with your child, you may consider some of the options below:

  • Dine at one of the restaurants in the town of Culver

  • Visit Plymouth - about 15 miles north of Culver - for movies, bowling, restaurants, Wal-Mart, and other stores.

  • Visit South Bend/Mishawaka - about 40 miles north of Culver - for a larger selection of stores and restaurants.

What can I do when I am not on permit with my camper?
We welcome all parents to view the Garrison Parade on Saturday evening at 7:00 PM on the James A. Henderson Parade Field.

What if my child is not going out on permit?
Not every child goes out on permit. For those who stay on campus, there will be activities to keep campers busy during weekends at Culver. There will be scheduled times for recreational sailing for Upper School and recreational skating and swimming for all campers along with other activities.

Many of the facilities will be open for campers to use during permit times.
Important Things to Remember on Permit

  • Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! It is imperative that our campers are well fed and properly hydrated during permit time. Please refrain from high-fat greasy foods, soft drinks, and high-sugar processed snacks.

  • While on permit students may not swim, sail, or participate in any boating or water activity UNLESS under the immediate supervision of their own parents.

  • Students with a driver’s license may drive only when accompanied by their own parents.

  • Campers must leave and return in their full dress uniform. When campers are in any public place (restaurant, stores, movies) they need to be in uniform.

  • They must be supervised the entire time while on permit and must be returned to their units no later than the end of permit time. Campers have activities scheduled on campus after permit concludes and need to be back on time.
Boarding School Admissions

If you’re interested in learning more about the Boarding School program, Admissions representatives will be available at Garrison Parade on Saturday, July 3 and July 17 at 7:00 PM.
Looking Ahead: End of Camp Schedule

We welcome parents for on-campus outdoor events on both Friday, July 30, and Saturday, July 31.

  • Garrison Parade will take place on Friday at 10:00 am on the James A. Henderson Parade Field.
  • Graduation ceremonies for both camps will be Saturday morning. Upper School will graduate at 8:30 AM followed by Woodcraft Camp at 9:45 AM.
  • Campers will be ready to depart with their parents and guardians in the late morning following the conclusion of the ceremonies.
