Wandering Heart:
“I'm Fixed Upon It"
Matthew 16: 21-28 | Psalm 107:1-3, 17-22
When your world unravels and your beliefs are tested, you may cling to what you know. As Jesus foretells his death and resurrection, Peter protests. Peter is fixed upon the way he thinks things should go; he resists the pain of what will come. But Jesus is fixed upon his calling and calls Peter out. For everyone, there comes a time when your faith is tested and you will have to face difficult and inconvenient truths. We may want to take the easier path, the path with less pain. We may want to cling to easy or simplistic answers. Instead, what does it look like to welcome complexity? Can you stay fixed upon your convictions while also expanding your perspective? One Great Hour of Sharing:
Embodying Kindness on the Streets of Las Vegas
Caridad Gardens is a Las Vegas-based nonprofit dedicated to helping and “humanizing the homeless” — through job skills training and mental, emotional and physical wellness programs — and its founder, Merideth Spriggs, a former youth pastor who was once homeless herself.
Spriggs started the organization in San Diego, where she was living at the time, not long after the university where she had been employed laid her off. As a result, she ultimately lost everything, including her unemployment benefits and her home.
“I realized if homelessness could happen to me, it could happen to anybody; and that I could be a unique voice,” said Spriggs, whose own work as a volunteer with the San Diego Rescue Mission proved transformational. “Even though I really felt God’s calling on my life to do this, most days I would not have picked this — and still don’t pick this — but I do not feel released from my calling.” Read more.
If you are so called, please send in your donations on or before Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024. Give now.

‘C’mon, church! Won’t you dream?’
The Rev. Dr. Diane Givens Moffett closes the Matthew 25 Summit by urging attendees to help bring about God’s kin-dom here and now
March 4, 2024
By Mike Ferguson, Editor, Presbyterian News Service
Drawing an insightful and inspirational Matthew 25 Summit to a close with worship, the Rev. Dr. Diane Givens Moffett asked those gathered at New Life Presbyterian Church in South Fulton, Georgia, and online to “consider with me” the thrust of her sermon, “Dream Driven.
“When was the last time that you dreamed?” Moffett asked. “When was the last time you felt passion for a subject?”
“When was the last time you dreamed like Joseph,” when “you were bold enough and bad enough to share the dream, even when it offended those who heard the dream?”
“When was the last time, church, you dreamed for wholeness and health … for justice to flow like water and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream?” Read more.

March 8, 2024
By Carissa Herold, Marketing Associate, Presbyterian Women in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Inc.
“Achieving gender equality and women’s well-being in all aspects of life is more crucial than ever if we want to create prosperous economies and a healthy planet,” according to the United Nations. “However, we are facing a key challenge: the alarming $360 billion annual deficit in gender-equality measures by 2030.”

In observance of International Women’s Day, for 2024, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, or U.N. Women, has chosen the theme “Invest in women: Accelerate progress.” The U.N. says there are “five key areas needing joint action: investing in women, a human rights issue: Time is running out. Gender equality is the greatest human rights challenge, benefiting everyone; ending poverty. Read more.
