We invite everyone to our Ash Wednesday service. The season of Lent is about intentionally opening ourselves up to what's underneath the surface, what's hidden in the dark, what tectonic plates need to shift for something new to be born. Lent means to disrupt us and lead us to action.

Lenten Study Series Unveiled

Turning Over Tables by Kathy Escobar

Every Sunday after worship

February 22 - March 29 | 10:45 - 11:45 a.m.

First Pres Sanctuary

This year, our church will use the season of Lent to facilitate conversation navigating how, together, we can turn the tables and build a world where justice, healing, and equity reign supreme.

With keen insight and unwavering conviction, visionary pastor Kathy Escobar guides us on a Lenten journey inspired by the ways of Jesus to dismantle the systems that perpetuate inequality and injustice. From flipping the moneychangers’ tables in the temple to uplifting the poor and marginalized, Jesus’ actions and words turn the world’s idea of power on its head. With each week of Lent, we'll dig deeper into Jesus’ challenge to the pervasive influence of privilege and oppression that have dominated since ancient times.

Although it's not necessary to read Turning Over Tables to participate in the Lenten study series, feel free to purchase a copy. Any number of outlets are selling Turning Over Tables; and for your convenience, we've provided several links where you can buy hard copies or eBooks. In case your budget needs to prioritize other expenses, we'll have a few extra copies on hand.

Presbyterians advocate for Haitian neighbors as a federal judge blocks, for now, an end to temporary protective status

From Springfield, Ohio to Spokane, Washington, Presbyterians joined other people of faith to rally for their friends

February 3, 2026 | Cindy Corell, Global Ecumenical Liaison | Presbyterian News Service

A federal judge on Monday blocked the Trump administration from terminating temporary protective status for Haitians. The decision came a day before this program, a safe haven from deportation, was expected to end.

A spokesperson for Department of Homeland Security said on social media that the government would appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court.

In Springfield, Ohio, where 15,000 Haitian people depend on the program, the worse news was that later in the week, they expected that federal detention officers would come to town to begin deportations.

Even in the midst of this fear though clergy and worshipers of many faiths from Springfield to Spokane, Washington, surrounded neighbors in love and advocacy. Read more.
