Risking Everything to Choose Life
It was a cold Sunday in January. “M” and her family sat huddled together near a back pew of the Beechmont Presbyterian Church in Louisville. The family had walked to church — but their 1½-mile walk to worship that morning was nothing compared with the dangerous passage they had just endured.
Because “M” and her children had been threatened with violence in their native country by cartels demanding money, she decided to risk everything — traveling by foot through six countries, across a dangerous river and through a treacherous jungle to seek asylum and start a new life with family in the U.S. Read more.
We ask that all Pentecost Special Offerings be received by Friday, June 6th. Give Now!

Embrace Your Mental Health Journey
Learning about our mental health and what we need to support our wellbeing takes time. It’s important to make mental health an ongoing priority in our lives, take care of ourselves, know when to get help, and share our own stories about mental health when possible.
Prioritizing self-care and emotional wellbeing as part of your daily routine can help you learn more about your mental health and wellness, feel more comfortable talking about mental health, and access helpful resources that are available when you need them. As a result, your efforts will help you:
Build connection * Foster the feeling that you are not alone
Make space to gain perspective on the difficulty you’re experiencing

Lamenting injustice in the federal budget
PC(USA) Office of Public Witness, Presbyterian News Service
May 23, 2025
With heavy hearts and deep concern, we, the Office of Public Witness of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), bear witness to the harm set in motion by Thursday’s passage of a budget reconciliation bill in the U.S. House of Representatives under the cover of night. While some have labeled it “The Big Beautiful Bill,” within the faith community it is rightly dubbed: “The Big Bad, Deadly Bill.”
Passed by a razor-thin margin of 215 to 214, this legislation threatens devastating cuts to federal programs that provide food assistance, health care access, and fund environmental protection, among others. These cuts target the most vulnerable — children, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, immigrants, and low-wage workers — while offering expanded benefits to the wealthiest Americans. If enacted, the average low-income household will face an increased tax burden of nearly $1,000 annually, exacerbating inequality in a nation already fractured by economic disparity. Read more.
