SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICE
10:00 a.m. in-person worship in the sanctuary
Online access beginning at 10:00 a.m.

(Sunday School for all ages is in summer recess.)
Communion This Sunday
We will continue to use the individual pre-packaged combination bread-and-juice cups that may be picked up in the narthex upon entering. Gluten-free elements are also available. Those worshiping online may gather communion supplies from their home.

Please wear your FPC name tag to church services for the benefit of our worship guests and new Children and Youth Coordinator, Molly Horner, as she gets to know us!
Returning to Two-Service Worship Format August 15
We will return to a 9:00 a.m. contemporary worship service in the Fellowship Hall and an 11:00 a.m. traditional service in the sanctuary, beginning Sunday, August 15. Sunday school classes for all ages will be offered at 10:00 a.m. We appreciate all who offered their responses in the recent congregational survey. Many indicated a preference for two distinct worship services. We also look forward to creating occasional opportunities to gather for worship together as one unified congregation. Thank you for your support and resilience during this transition!
A Message of Thanks from Molly Horner
Our New Children and Youth Coordinator
I would like to thank everyone for such a warm welcome to First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota. Everyone I have met so far, from the staff to the families, has been so warm and gracious. It was a beautiful and yummy reception last Sunday. I am truly blessed to come on board and know this is going to be a great year for the children and youth program. Thank you so much for welcoming me with open arms. Please let me know if I can ever be of service to you. Thanks!

Church Office Closed Friday, July 2, and Monday, July 5,
in Observance of Independence Day
It’s time to sign up . . .
so that your thoughts and opinions can be heard at a Mission Study Team small-group meeting.

What might the future look like for our church? How can we be the Body of Christ here and now? What qualities do we hope for in our next pastor?

Calling our next pastor is a detailed and deliberate process. Our Mission Study must be completed and approved by the session and presbytery before we will be ready to elect a Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC), to search for our next pastor. Once the PNC is elected (likely in October), they will develop a Ministry Information Form (the MIF, or “position description”)—which will be informed by what we have learned in our mission study. We want that form to accurately reflect this congregation’s history, faith, and sense of calling. In order to get that right, we need to hear from you.

Add your voice to this process by signing up now for one of the small group meetings, either face-to-face or via Zoom, by calling the church office (941-955-8119), or by clicking on one of the links in News@First. Be part of the planning for the future of FPC Sarasota!

We thank you for your input and your prayers as we go forward.

Following Jesus Today:
Challenges and Opportunities

Beginning Tuesday, July 20
11:30 a.m. via Zoom

Jesus told his disciples: “Come, follow Me.” These three words provide opportunities and present challenges to each of us. In this class participants will consider what following Jesus means—in our personal lives and for the church. We will reflect on both the challenges and opportunities of modern-day discipleship in light of the great ends of the church.

Elaine Barnett, an Elder and a Certified Christian Educator, will be the class leader. You can sign-up by emailing Elaine at ewbarnet@me.com

Mission Day Trip to Beth-El
Last Wednesday, June 30, six volunteers took an SUV full of your donations of supplies and $880 in financial contributions to Beth-El Your gifts were greatly appreciated. Our group--with the help of a couple added volunteers--prepared over 350 bags of dry goods to be distributed to some of the over-600 folks who will come to the food bank this week. Thank you, FPC, for your generosity!
Family Promise has a volunteer opportunity for high school students looking for community service hours.

Energetic volunteers are needed for about two hours to help with some small, hands-on projects at the Family Promise Day Center, located on Vamo Road. The tasks would include moving cots and stored items from one room to another and assembling some storage shelves/racks. The cots weigh about 10 pounds each, meaning that some minor lifting is part of the task. All volunteers receive a certificate of thanks which notes their hours. Please contact Tara Maffei at Family Promise (941-952-1800) if you would like to volunteer.

Family Promise is on target to serve its 100th family in the Sarasota/Manatee area this summer. In addition, 331 children and their parents have been diverted from unsafe living situations, had evictions prevented, and had homelessness risks stabilized. Thank you!

Six families moved from shelter/unstable housing into their own apartment just in the last two weeks. One parent said, "There are challenges that just feel overwhelming when we lay down to go to sleep at night. But this place, Family Promise, when I laid down at night with my wife, we just kept saying that it felt like we had a chance. A real chance again."

That summarizes Family Promise’s work: restoring hope, giving families a chance and an opportunity.

Pastoral Care
When you or a loved one is hospitalized, it is important that you contact the church or one of the pastors to inform us directly and inform the hospital that you are a member of our congregation and would welcome a visit by one of our pastors. Hospitals will not contact the church. We have also discovered that some will no longer even list a patient as our church member on their internal records unless the patient is careful to note their relationship with our congregation. Thank you for your assistance.

We’re Here for You!
The FPC care team, Stephen Ministers, deacons, elders and church staff continue to be available for you. Please feel free to reach out to Cheryl Track, Faith Community Nurse (941) 320-3828 or call the church office (941) 955-8119 if we can be of support to you.
