A Gift That Will Bless Many

First Presbyterian Church has been blessed to receive a generous gift from the estate of Gene Reynolds.

In keeping with Gene's wishes and with the support of his children, the gift will be divided equally among four areas of ministry: the Presbyterian Pantry, Worship Enhancement, the Emergency Assistance Fund, and the General Operating Fund.

This thoughtful gift reflects Gene's lifelong commitment to faith, service, and community. Through support of these ministries, his generosity will continue to touch lives and strengthen the mission of First Presbyterian Church for years to come.

We are deeply grateful to Gene and his family for this remarkable gift and for the opportunity to honor the values that were so important to him.

Gene's gift also serves as a reminder that planned giving can be a meaningful way to express our faith and support the ministries we care about beyond our lifetime. Through wills, estate plans, beneficiary designations, or other legacy gifts, members have an opportunity to leave a lasting impact on the church and its mission.

We give thanks for Gene's life, faith, and enduring legacy of generosity.

Annual Outdoor Worship Service - Sunday July 12, 2026

Outdoor Worship

Sunday July 12 is the date for our annual outdoor worship service on the front lawn of the church, and due to popular demand, we will again experience a “blessing of the animals” as part of this service!

Bring your (well-behaved) pets and your own lawn chair for this light-hearted service of worship at 10:00 a.m.

We will start with donuts and juice boxes plus special treats and water for dogs. Our scripture story will be the portion of the creation narrative where Adam names all the animals in Genesis chapter 2.

There will not be a coffee hour following this service, so bring your own coffee in a travel mug and bring a neighbor or friend as well.

Synod School 2026: Love In Between

Synod School 2026

The last full week of the month of July is always set aside for Synod School, so Pastor Katie and Joel Morien and a van full of others from our congregation will be away from July 26 through July 31 at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa once again.

This year’s theme is “Love In Between” and the week will feature Professor William Yoo of Columbia Theological Seminary as convocation speaker and the Rev. CeCe Armstrong as worship leader.

Our very own Joel Morien is the youth convocation speaker this year.

It promises to be an excellent week of learning, growth, and fellowship for all!

Love For Our Leaders

Love For Our Leaders

This is the season of the year when our leadership changes, so we say thank you to some elders and deacons completing their terms and welcome to those who are just beginning theirs.

Gratitude goes out to David Anderson, Fritzi Mevis, and Georjeanna Wilson-Doenges for their service on the Session and to Olivia Crooks and Sue Russell for their service to the Deacons.

We are pleased to have Teresa Schoffelman joining Session as it’s new clerk, and to Chris McNitt, Mike Melton, and Kris Walker as new elders.

George Hubbard has graciously agreed to do a second term as Deacon and joining him as new Deacons are Bruce Deadman and Judy Exl. Thanks to all.

Generosity in Action

By: Nancy Siewert

In this month’s Generosity in Action, we’re taking a closer look at two additional categories from our Acts of Generosity campaign: generosity expressed at our church and generosity shown through monetary donations.

Each act, whether seen or unseen, reflects a shared commitment to caring for one another and supporting the work God is doing in and through our church. As we continue highlighting these stories, we hope they serve as a meaningful reminder of the many ways generosity is already at work among us.
