New worship series starting this week!
Water, water everywhere! Summer evokes special memories of water - afternoons at the pool, splashing and floating in the cool, relaxing water on a hot day - trips to the local river, beach, or lake to seek relief and refreshment from the summer heat. The Bible shares so many stories of water as well - waters of creation, waters of baptism, living-water and more. Come to the Water this summer with First Presbyterian Church as we spend three weeks focusing in on some special stories about water from scripture. Join us as we gather to sing, play and wonder together. Come on in! The water is warm!

Presbyterian Heritage Sunday Kirkin' o' the Tartan

On Sunday, September 25th, we will commemorate the rich history of the Presbyterian Church with origins deeply rooted in the Church of Scotland. Our worship service will open with a processional of bagpipes and field drum, combined with our beautiful pipe organ, to the magnificent tune "Highland Cathedral". As part of the service, we will present and bless the tartans.
Over the course of the next two months, you have the opportunity to purchase a tartan in your family name (ancient or modern). A member of your family will get to participate in the processional, carrying your family tartan, and will then be a part of the presentation and blessing, as well as the recessional at the conclusion of the service. Tartans can also be purchased for any branch of the military, as well as the United States Tartan. The St. Andrews Cross flag is also part of the service.

Please contact Alicia Taylor at alicia@fpccov.org or 770-656-6848 for pricing, questions, and to order a tartan. If you email, please provide the tartan family name, the name of the individual ordering the tartan, phone number, and email address, as well as whether you will be paying by cash or check. You can do a search for your family tartan HERE.

An Extra Connection to FPC Covington!
The Saint Andrews Society of Washington, D.C. held the first Kirkin' during the early years of World War II. Former pastor of FPC Covington, Dr. Peter Marshall, an eloquent Scot, and then Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, led the service in 1943, choosing "Kirkin' o' the Tartan" for the title of his sermon. His sermons were so popular that a request was made for their publication, with the proceeds designated for war relief programs. As the war continued, the D.C. Saint Andrews Society continued to hold prayer services for the British subjects. These became known as Kirkin's.

Give-A-Bell Program
For continued growth of our Carillon Bell Choir, we need more handbells - a terrific challenge to have and to meet! We are incredibly blessed as a church to have the original gift of three octaves of handbells, and now we need to add a fourth.
Our Give-A-Bell fundraising effort provides an opportunity for ALL in our congregation to give to a handbell fund for the music ministry. Our goal to is raise enough for an octave of handbells, making room in the bell choir for an additional five ringers!
If you would like to make a contribution to the Give-A-Bell program, please click HERE to fill out the form and attach cash or a check made out to FPC and place it in the offering plate this Sunday or drop it off at the church office. Please put “Give-A-Bell” or “Handbells” in the memo space on your check or envelope.
Donations can also be made via Text to Give, by texting FPCCOV to: 73256
Please email catherine@fpccov.org with your listing details if you use Text to Give.
Contributors will be acknowledged in the worship guide by the name(s) given when the new handbells are dedicated. Thank you!
