In our First Reading, From the Book Of the Prophet Daniel
12:1-3

Israel is occupied by the Syrians, who tried to impose Greek language, culture, and religion on the Jews. Many of the faithful Jews chose death rather than accept the pagan gods or violate the Mosiac Law. There is a message of hope, God will help- if not in this life, then in the hereafter. Some shall live forever, others shall be an everlasting horror and disgrace. So when we are depressed: Have faith in God.

The Responsorial Psalm is that that we put our trust in Jesus because of his love and kindness and that he has done great things for us, so we should be filled with joy and love for him and to be like him in your self-giving.

In the Second Reading, From Hebrews
10:11-14,18
Jesus has taken his seat... at the right hand of God, which means Jesus shares power with God in heaven where he prays for us. Knowing this gives us hope in our often confused human condition.

In the Gospel of Mark
13:24-32
The setting is the early Church, which is harassed by persecutors. Christians are still expecting Christ's second coming in their own lifetime. Mark consoles his congregations with a message of hope: Christ will come. We ask what is God's word to us? We are not an occupied country :there is no Church persecution in our land but do expect Christ to return during our lifetime? We must not despair, we must have hope!

Meditations
“Lord, I too lack the necessary faith to see the blessings that accompany Your Cross, as well as the many crosses I am given in life. Help me to be purified in my faith so that I can see Your hand at work in all things, even suffering, injustice and persecution. May I see life from Your perspective alone. Jesus, I trust in You."
