In our First Reading, From the Book Of Isaiah
53:10-11

Christian service implies self-denial and sacrifice, giving of one self, sharing not only money but also time and concern, to an extent even that it may hurt. Jesus has done so.

The Responsorial Psalm is that that we put our trust in Jesus because of his love and kindness.

In the Second Reading, From Hebrews
4:14-16

It refers to the Jewish high priest, who entered the sanctuary of the Jerusalem temple time and again to offer a sacrifice to God, and says now Jesus is our high priest, who entered the sanctuary of heaven to pray for us.

In the Gospel of Mark
10:35-45 or 10:42-45
What makes a person really great? Society lays down rules for greatness, success in business, a charming personality, physical beauty, excellence in the performing arts. One must have done something spectacular! Our Lord has a few ideas of his own: "Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant." We may admire those who are great in unselfish service to others, but do we realize that Jesus's statement is also directed to us, and that service that makes us great in the eyes of God does not have to be spectacular.

Meditations
“Lord, I too lack the necessary faith to see the blessings that accompany Your Cross, as well as the many crosses I am given in life. Help me to be purified in my faith so that I can see Your hand at work in all things, even suffering, injustice and persecution. May I see life from Your perspective alone. Jesus, I trust in You."
