December 2021
Greetings!

Here we are in December; where have the weeks gone ! It's hard to believe soon we will be wrapping up the first semester of classes at TROY for the 2021.2022 school year. In addition to our daily class schedule, our semester has been packed with a wide variety of student activities and outings that make being part of TROY School unique and memorable. Our building is full of teenagers and we are serving the needs of 51 students; 11 middle schoolers and 40 high schoolers. In addition to our current partnerships with both Smith Green Community Schools and Whitko Community Schools, we have a new partnership with Northwest Allen County Schools and are thrilled they recognize how a partnership with TROY can benefit their students when other options have proven unsuccessful.

In January we will begin the second year of TROY Works, a career exploration program that helps students broaden their knowledge of the skills needed for lucrative job opportunities in our community. As part of TROY Works, students become familiar with and receive job skills training via job shadowing and internships. Students likewise have the opportunity to tour numerous local manufacturers where they are introduced to careers that are readily available within the local manufacturing sector. We are also continuing to develop a speakers bureau inviting individuals from throughout the community to speak with students and familiarize them with a wide range of career opportunities. The implementation of TROY Works to assist students with career exploration has been an incredible addition to our program and one that we know will offer unlimited possibilities for our students and graduates.

Needless to say, LOTS OF FANTASTIC THINGS are happening at TROY School and as we head into the final weeks of the semester we want to be sure that everyone who supports TROY is thanked for making what we do possible. We truly would not be where we are without you! The past two years have presented us with numerous obstacles and we are finally feeling like we are getting back to normal. The unwavering support we have received from the community has been crucial in allowing us to continue making an impact even in spite of the challenges we have all faced. We are especially grateful for your support of our mission and that you believe there is a need for a place like TROY School.

Wishing you PEACE & JOY as we head into the holiday season !

Executive Director
TROY Works is our career exploration program that focuses on assisting students in identifying a career path that is the best fit for them. We are excited to report that several of our 2021 graduates have come back to share their successes with us with one grad working as a construction apprentice and two other grads earning their welding certifications through their current employers.
We would love for you to share your career and/or place of business with our students. To be added to our second semester calendar, please contact Lauren Fuller at Lauren@troyalternativeschool.com
In case you missed it, Tuesday, November 30th was GIVING TUESDAY and throughout the day we highlighted several of our seniors so that you could hear from them why they came to TROY School and how TROY has helped them get where they are today. As with all teenagers, we observe so much growth in our students from the time they first come to us (mostly as freshmen) until they are ready to graduate after senior year. This young lady, Trinity, is no exception ! She is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside and she is absolutely a force to be reckoned with ! I love that as she is finishing up her final classes the relationship we have with her has shifted into one of loving camaraderie from that of teachers/mentors and student. There is no doubt that Trinity knows we will continue to love her and be here for her once she sets out on her own and we cannot wait to see what she chooses to do with her one wild and precious life!

Your gift to TROY School has an incredible impact on students just like Trinity. If you were unable to make a gift on GIVING TUESDAY we are continuing to accept year-end contributions to our annual fund which supports the general operation of our program. Contributions may be made through the following avenues:

  • ONLINE by clicking the green Support TROY School button
  • TELEPHONE by calling 260.248.8787
  • MAIL to: TROY School, PO Box 1002, Columbia City, IN 46725.

We are sincerely grateful for your ongoing support of the mission of TROY School !
