Hi Good Shepherd friends,

Last week I received word from the bishop's office that the Rev. Jane Bruce had passed away. Jane served Good Shepherd with Charlie Penick from 1987-1990. Parishioners remember Jane's artistic bent and her love of icons, her kindness and graciousness, and heart for ministry. You can find her obituary here:

https://stdavidslaurinburgnc.org/2025/09/17/celebration-of-life-honoring-rev-jane-bruce-october-4-2pm/

For better or worse, priests never quite leave a parish, and some of you may remember her time with you. For better or worse, parishes never quite leave a priest, and I'm sure that she took Good Shepherd into her the ministry that she did long and well.

If you need to chat, you know where to find me -- 570-259-0671.

Love,

Becky+

We were honored to have the Right Rev. Thomas Tut Gany from the Diocese of the South Sudan with us Sunday. Parishioners Larry and Suzan Duffee hosted their friend on his first visit to the U.S. It was a treat to meet the Bishop and to learn about South Sudan and the help that he received from Larry during Larry's time as a missionary in South Sudan that resulted in wells for fresh water.

September Is Suicide Prevention Month

The church often acts as the first line of defense by providing support and resources for those who are struggling. Studies show that among religious people seeking treatment, approximately 25% turn to the church first for help. In observance of Suicide Prevention Month, this week we share two opportunities to learn more about supporting mental health in our communities.
