From 10 to 70 Years: A Ministry Milestone Celebration

This Sunday, come by the Activity Center from 9:30–10:30 AM as we celebrate some incredible milestones—ordination anniversaries ranging from 10 to 70 years! We’ll be honoring pastors who are serving, retired or members of First Lutheran. They will be sharing personal stories and reflections from their years of ministry, giving us a glimpse into how God has worked through their lives and callings.

We will also take a moment to show our appreciation for Pastor Marsha Anderson and her dedicated service as our visitation pastor, while giving a warm welcome to Pastor Greg Gabriel, who is temporarily stepping into that role.

And here’s the fun part—you’ll get the chance to ask those burning questions you’ve always wondered about, like:

  • What surprised you most in your first year of ministry?
  • What’s one change in the church that’s had the biggest impact?
  • What’s a moment you’ll never forget from serving a congregation?
  • What Scripture has stuck with you through the years?
  • What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened during worship?
  • What advice would you give to someone considering ministry today?

This is your chance to express gratitude and celebrate with those who have answered God’s call to serve. Everyone’s welcome—don’t miss it!

Justice in Action Tackles Food Insecurity: Community Gathers for Change

On November 3, 253 members of the Justice in Action community, including representatives from First Lutheran, gathered to elect new board members and vote on a new campaign focus: food insecurity. The three initiatives voted on from the 558 stories heard in 71 hosted listening/house sessions were homelessness, food insecurity and affordable childcare.

First member Barb Johnson Frank shared an inspiring story about building community—highlighting how one neighbor’s simple idea for a block concert brought 70 people together.

Mark your calendars for the Nehemiah Gathering on April 30 at St. Mark’s Methodist Church in Lincoln where you will hear updates on these campaigns and plans for tackling food insecurity.

Gather Lincoln Friendsgiving Feast

Young adults ages 18–35 are invited to a Friendsgiving Feast hosted by Gather Lincoln on Saturday, November 15 at 6:00 PM at First Lutheran.

Come enjoy an evening of food, friends and fun as we share a meal and connect with others in our community and from other ELCA churches. If you’re able, bring a dish to share.

All are welcome—come as you are and bring a friend!

Thanksgiving Day Feast - All Are Welcome!

Join us on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, at noon for a feast of food and fellowship! Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy will be provided. Families are asked to bring two sides (vegetable, salad or dessert), and singles one side to share. You’re invited to bring your out-of-town guests and family—there’s always room at the table!

This special meal is hosted by our Fellowship Committee, though many committee members will be away—so extra hands are needed to help before, during and after the meal. Can you help? Let us know if you plan to attend and/or can help!
