Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by following Jesus, thriving in community, and healing the world. |

Friends,
On Saturday, I made my way to San Francisco to attend the celebration of life for the Rev. Dr. Dorsey Blake, one of my seminary professors and the presiding minister at the historic Church for the Fellowship of All Peoples. It was a beautiful service that was filled with Dr. Blake's touch -- from the readings, the music, the people who spoke of his life, and the people who present to bear witness to his ministry. If I close my eyes right now, I can still hear the piano-violin duet playing the African American spiritual "Deep River."
In his Transformative Leadership class, Dr. Blake introduced me to the life and work of Howard Thurman, who I have found to be a great spiritual guide in my personal life. So, when I saw that the family had brought Dr. Blake's library for folks to take following the service, I grabbed two Thurman books -- "The Mood of Christmas" and a reflection on 1st Corinthians 13, the Love Hymn. They will be a treasure in my own library.
During our Praise Report (Kid's Moment) in worship, I asked the children what they are grateful for. I should have said that I am grateful for the saints of God who I have had the privilege of knowing in this life and to know that they surround us still today in the "great cloud of witnesses" (Hebrews 12:1). What a joy life is in this communion, this community. What saints -- big or small, known and unknown -- are you grateful for?
See you Sunday,

From the Trustees -- Training on How to use the Lift, 3/30
This Sunday, March 30, following the worship service, Thom King will be leading a training for anyone who would like to know how to properly use the Lift. As a reminder, this is a Lift not an elevator for general use. The Lift is for those with mobility challenges who cannot use the stairs to get to the second floor. The Lift is a little sensitive so this training will help those who need access to it. For more info, contact Thom King, President of the Board of Trustees.
