Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by following Jesus, thriving in community, and healing the world. |

Friends,
In one of our morning walks, Martin and I saw something that stood out on our regular route. There was, mounted on a bus stop sign, a bright red "Take a Number" dispenser except this one read "Take a Moment." I pulled out "my moment" from the dispense that read, "Appreciate a recent conversation that left you feeling uplifted and understood." I don't know who put up this public display, but I loved the invitation. It felt timely with all that is going on in our lives and in our world.
"Take a Moment." That is what this season is about. First, for today's Church Conference, we take a moment to reflect on our past, to celebrate our present, and to prepare for the future. And then, this "Take a Moment" experiment really lines up well with spirit behind the Season of Advent, which begins on December 1st. This is a time of preparation for the birth of the Christ Child on Christmas Day. It is a time for us reflect on our hearts, our priorities, our values as we seek to welcome the Christ Child anew.
On Wednesday, we will "Take a Moment" for Trans Day of Remembrance. In community with our various partners, we will hit pause to remember, to grieve, and to hope as gather for our transgender neighbors who were lost to violence.
I invite you, in the busyness of your life, to take a moment. To center yourself in God's loving care, to lift up gratitude for the blessings in life, and to remember our vulnerable neighbors.
